Hi guys,
does anyone have any serious issues with this car? i am interested in upgrading from my 'sh#$ty golf' but i dont have hundreds of thousands to get a new car or a real decent second hand one.ive been looking on autotrader and i see some of them going for R50-000 to R70-000.

my concerns are mainly on mileage.if the car has over 150 000 kms should i just completely avoid it.
also what is the most you would pay for this older car. and can anyone comment on the car itself? if you had a friend who used to drive it or if you drove it yourself?

Just keep in mind that Audio spares and services are rather...oh who am I kidding? They're ridiculously expensive. A turbo replacement would easily set you back half of what you paid for the car, at R50-R70k

Yeah be careful about the turbos especially if the mileage is high. It's the same story with the G4 GTIs.

my advice, avoid like the plague.
Services are gonna be pricey and as mentioned, if the turbo goes you are going to cry.

/edit/ think about it, if ur having apprehension about buying it now, how are you going to sell it in 2/3 years time..

so should i just stick to my citi until i can afford something better,,,alrighty then.thanks for the scare guys :p

I'd rather save a bit and get something more humble. Odds are the insurance on that thing would've killed you as well, anyway. I'm looking at buying one of the new Polo's next year some time, when they've dropped in value a bit. Way better choice, in my mind.

on my father's a4 2.0T (previous shape), the clutch was replaced on 60k and 120k as part of "routine" service - luckily under service plan...

...so just be careful as the car might be cheap but the services might cost an arm and a leg

When buying an older car, it is a good idea to look at its price when it was new... the parts and maintenance are normally in line with that new selling price.

I've just got mine back after a fairly extensive overhaul including an engine rebuild and the first new clutch it's seen. 200k on the clock and I still love this car. :)
