After weeks of deliberation, I've become stuck between either getting a 2017 Audi A3 1 litre tfsi or 2017 Mazda Cx5 Dynamic. The car would mainly be used for short commutes and the occasional long distance trip. I really like both cars, but which one would be better. Especially long term (5 years +)

Those are two completely different cars?

Why not expand options, what is your budget?

Budget is 400k max. Im not the most knowledge about cars, but these two just apealled to me. Always willing to hear any suggestions though

The CX-5 looks amazing, inside and out.
Definitely.

I agree it's hard to compare these two cars because they are very different.

I have a cx-3 (the baby brother of the cx-5) and it is really great. The cx-5 is just a fatter body on the same basic structure. I've driven the cx-5 as well. So much better than similar priced SUVs in that segment.

I looked at Audis before settling on the Mazda. No contest for me. The Audis were more expensive, smaller and less well specced considering the exorbitant prices, across the board

I'd also try to find the CX-5 Individual, rather than the Dynamic. The extra features on the Individual are nice (starting with 10-speaker Bose sound system )

Both great cars in completely different categories which makes it a little bit of a challenge to compare them.

You don't mention if you test drove both cars. The driving feel of either of the two might settle it for you if you haven't already.

Considering our current fuel prices and your short journeys, I would go for the better fuel economy of the Audi. CX5 would take it on everything else though.

On the reliability front, the first five years shouldn't be an issue, after that; I would rather take my chances on the CX5.

There are a lot of options in the two year range. 3 year range even kore so. Don’t punish yourself dude.

Audi, no question.

Plenty of time to buy boring family cars later in life.

I drove a CX3 to durban and back recently. I was very impressed. I think I'd take the CX5 over an A3.

I would still take a CX-5 over a 1 liter Audi A3 any day. Also you could maybe just get yourself a BMW 220d and call it a day.

No, not really. The CX-3 is based on the Mazda2 chassis and the CX-5 is based on the Mazda3 chassis. They're completely different cars, but obviously have a family resemblance.

Ah. I was going on what one of the salespeople told me.

The engine in the cx-3 is the same as the one in the cx-5, though. 2 litre. No turbo. Lots of power.
