Looking at buying an A3. Its a 2005 model, 2 door, 2.0 litre, with 90000km on the clock, for 90k.... Does anyone have advice on this, or has anyone owned one?

Nothing to say really. It's a great car and I'm sure you'll enjoy it :)

edit: I take it that it's either nearing (or out of) the maintenance/service plan? In which case parts and services might hurt a bit.

Righto. First off - welcome to the forums. Second... there is a specific motoring section. Ask a mod to move this please. Cheerio!

Hi

I got the 2006 a3 sportback 2 litre in feb of last year, also second hand. had about 80k on the clock, but on this engine its nothing. Since its a fairly simple engine (no turbos or superchargers) the servicing shouldnt be a problem, mine isnt, and its essentially the same car. I love it :) :p

If the cars in good nick you wont regret it! (be warned though, there is one flaw in this car :wtf: : it encourages speeding :( especially with the manual gearbox, and on freeways  )

the price sounds very nice, but check with an pre-owned audi dealer what they would have asked for it...

Audi without service plan could burn holes in your wallet.

True it's gonna have to have a FSH and get someone reputable and trustworthy to check the car out as well.

Otherwise it could be a nasty purchase.

But from what I understand they're lovely cars.

My cousin has an A3 TDi and really enjoys it.

When I got my 2nd hand A3 TDI - I took it to Audi for them to do an inspection check on it (basically it is the same sorta check they do when they buy a car from someone before it is resold) - it costs a couple of hundred, but it might just save you in the long run.

Also maybe ask nicely if you can see the service records for the car (from Audi) - it might help spot stuff like "radiator replaced 4 times" etc - that'll maybe help you spot any "problems" that the owner hasn't yet mentioned to you.

Good advice :)

R90k sounds a little cheap. Are you sure it isn't an accident rebuild or Code 3? With that sort of mileage they normally go for R110k+

A3 is a very nice car. i drove a 3.2 what a machine:D

well, the main thing was i was looking at one still under motor plan, and since they didnt sell the new face a3 with the 3.2 engine in SA, it would have had to be one where the owner had extended the motorplan... Only 1 i could find was one with 96k on the clock for >R200k... and in Gautengaleng, so would have had to drive it down :(

Ended up buying the newer 2liter, and I'm still happy :D
TBH the extra power isnt needed except for long distence driving, and I'm not currently doing much of that. Just wish i had quatro and the v6 sound :(

tell me about the V6 sound and that quattro.

but is a A3 3.2 quattro and an S3 sort of the same thing?

You see, thats the thing, Im a bit worried about the price, it did seem a low....

But I'll definately just check it out.... I just really love the look of the audi, its really appealing...

I don't think the services will be to bad will they? it doesn't have the turbo etc, so not to much engine problems....

Is there still alot of pull from the standard 2.0 litre? thats the thing im also worried about, as i do like my speed.... sorta....
