I was shocked at how little that A3 had for that much money... I've no doubt it's well built and will last a while, but if I'm buying an upmarket car I want an on board computer and a multi function steering wheel. And cruise control.

My purchasing strategy has switched from looking for a specific car anywhere in the country to looking for anything suitable close enough to test drive easily.

A 2009 won't offer good value, it's a facelift and fetches a much higher price.

Look at 2007 non facelift models. The interior is the same as the facelift. Here is where you will find value, +-R110,000 with +-100,000km.

Otherwise rather look around for a B8 A4 if you can afford R160,000, it is more in line with the class of vehicle you're coming from. Or +-R110,000 for a 2007 B7 A4.

I'm a BMW fan, and will always buy BMW. Basic models come with nothing - everything is almost an optional extra. Audi and VW fall into the same group, but solid vehicles.

I'd rather have less features and experience a better drive than have everything and drive a tin can like the electronic Korean cellphone, come car manufacturers.
