Audi: Battery settings after replacement

So, I need to replace the battery in my 2015 Audi.
Audi claims that there are settings they need to change after the battery was replaced. Not a big deal, since it only costs R150.
However, the quote for the battery is R5200, where i can get the same at Midas (or similar shop) for R1450.

Does anyone know what these settings are? Can it be done elsewhere?

You did not mention the size or any other information about the battery.

Sorry about that.. So it's a 652C battery. I'll check which brand, but I found plenty online around the R1400 - R2000 range.

The battery recoding can be done by anyone with VCDS or OBDEleven.

The Audi battery will come with a sticker that has the serial number you need to input, not sure about aftermarket ones.

Example of doing it on OBDEleven with a B8.5 S4 here:

I assume the quote from Audi came with a free complementary tub of vaseline

Audi are a bunch of crooks, all this looks like is an unnecessary intervention they put in to benefit themselves.

This is my feeling as well and the only reason I’m still considering it is for warranty purposes.. but just trying to gauge if anyone else has been through this or better yet, someone in the industry???

Why don't you try Bosch? they now sell parts and will surely have whatever equipment needed to program it.

Yes, or even battery centre and couple other RMI accredited spots.
Checking my options now.

Your Audi have that Stop/ Start thingamebob?
Don't they need a special battery? Don't know that the extra cost is justified but it might be related to that?

You're in the Helderberg IIRC? Battery Center in Strand changes the battery while a jumper pack is connected in parallel, no settings lost. I paid around R1500 for a 652 Raylite in March last year.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest. Buy new battery, connect in parallel so that power isn’t lost. Spend the money on beer

So.. machie sorted out part with shoppie, i picked it up from there, took it to him at audi, he fitted it and set the codes.
Something about a QR code (like the video above) that was missing, but there was still enough to go on to set it up. That saved me R3800.
