Audi Q7 (2nd Generation)

The new third-gen Audi Q7 is V6 diesel SUV that can run on vegetable oil

And you can opt for five, six or seven seats. Still need that Q9?

Audi is readying a Really Big Car called the Q9 that offers up to seven seats, but before that, here’s another Really Big Car that might just undermine it a tad. It’s the new, third-generation Q7. As you can see, it Big.

And it will offer up to seven seats, including for the first time a six-seat option for the full ‘business class’ experience. Quite how that’ll feel when you tank it with vegetable oil remains to be seen.

Because this new Q7 is a diesel-only affair, with a 3.0-litre V6 bolted in offered in 295bhp or 242bhp tunes, mild hybrid assistance in the form of a 24bhp electric motor and electric-powered compressor, and the option of pouring in hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). No, you now want a bag of chips.

About the hybrid bits. There’s a belt alternator starter, a ‘refined’ e-motor and a small battery. You can go for ‘short periods’ on e-power alone, while the compressor is always on, boosting mid-range power and bettering your efficiency.

Third-Generation Audi Q7 Revealed

The third-generation Audi Q7 has been revealed, debuting a luxury interior and three-row practicality. Here’s your first look.

The Audi Q7 has been quite the success story for the Ingolstadt-based brand but the second-generation model had been getting on its years, despite some facelifts. Speaking of face, this new Q7 adopts the new Audi design language, complete with intricate grille, smart digital lighting and minimalist approach.

This new Audi Q7 rides on the Premium Platform Combustion setup, and will be available in 5 or 7-seater configuration and if you need even more space, well Audi will be revealing the Q9 in July 2026. For the first time, the Q7 will be offered with two individual seats in the second row, essentially a 2x2x2. Q7 has always been about the space and practicality, and this new iteration has some interesting premium touches, like an illuminated panoramic sunroof with switchable transparency.

As is the case with most of the premium car brands, the cabin is filled with screens, but its unclear how much of the content you see in the marketing photographs will be standard or optional equipment.

Audi South Africa has yet to confirm which powertrains our market will receive, but globally the new Q7 is available with a choice of petrol or diesel motors, which offer mild-hybrid assistance (MHEV). It appears the European market will make do with the Volkswagen Group’s 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel, with a choice of two outputs; 180 kW and 500 Nm, as well as 220 kW and 630 Nm.
