Audi Q9

Meet the biggest Audi ever: this is your first look inside the new Q9 SUV

Powered doors, pano roof, and up to seven seats for Audi’s largest ever car

The Audi Q9 is coming. It will be a (up to) seven-seat SUV with electrically powered doors and a panoramic roof and 4D sound and likely a hotline to the International Space Station. It will also take over from the outgoing A8 as Audi's new flagship automobile. It will also be absolutely flippin’ huge.

Audi itself calls the incoming Q9 its “first large full-size SUV”, forgetting it already makes something large and full sized called ‘Q7’. This is bigger of course, because it’s not really aimed at this sceptred, pot-holed island, but rather the many States that make up America, and a place called ‘China’. Big places, those.

Big places that need a big car. You can spec it as a seven-seater, but if you opt for a six-seater the middle row gets a pair of heated/cooled individual chairs that offer “business-class comfort”. Every chair is electrically adjustable, with the fronts getting all the goodies.

Speaking of the front, you’ll notice the Q9 gets a large, wide digital display and infotainment system angled towards the driver, while the passenger gets their own separate screen display. Screens, huh, wonder if they’ll ever catch on.

Audi Q9 Due in SA in 2027

The Audi Q9 will be a three-row premium offering and will be globally revealed at the end of July 2026. Here’s a first look at Audi’s first large full-size SUV.

The Audi Q9 will revealed at the end of July 2026 and is locked in for a South African arrival in 2027 and when it goes on sale, it will be the biggest offering from the premium German carmaker. It will be Audi’s attempt at taking on the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.

Prior to its official debut, the Audi Q9 has been semi-revealed, with the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer sharing numerous images detailing the three-row cabin and highlighting some of the features. For the first time, the second row of doors are electrically powered. The new Audi Q9 is set to offer up to 7 seats, although the pictures show a 6-seater configuration.

The Q9 looks like to be one of those vehicles where you can’t decide whether you want to drive or be driven. Perhaps the large, illuminated panoramic sunroof with switchable transparency and new 4D sound system will encourage you to take the second row of seats. The two individual seats are electrically-adjustable and feature active ventilation. Front seats feature heating, ventilation and massage.

A first look inside the new Audi Q9

Audi has unveiled the interior design and features of its upcoming Q9, the brand’s first large full-size SUV, ahead of its launch in around two months.

The Q9 will offer up to seven seats, electrically powered doors, a large panoramic sunroof with switchable transparency, and an updated 4D sound system designed to create an immersive in-car experience.

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said the Q9 reflects the company’s focus on redefining premium mobility through interior comfort and technology.

The SUV will be available in both six-seat and seven-seat configurations. The optional six-seat layout includes two electrically adjustable individual seats in the second row with ventilation features, while the seven-seat option allows all three second-row seats to accommodate child seats.

Audi said all seats are partially power-adjustable as standard, while the third-row seatbacks can be folded down individually using electric controls.

For the first time in an Audi vehicle, all doors can be operated electrically. The doors can be controlled using the key, myAudi app, MMI system, brake pedal, or seatbelt buckle. Surround sensors with obstacle detection can prevent the doors from opening into nearby objects or approaching road users.

The Q9 also features a panoramic sunroof measuring about 1.5 square metres. Drivers can switch sections of the laminated safety glass between transparent and opaque settings for glare protection and privacy. The top trim level includes integrated lighting with 84 LEDs and 30 colour options.
