Audio cables vs cheap wire test

I'm not really going through any expenses to minimize noise. I probably have the most unfriendly room when it comes to sound quality. Glass and tiles and open plan everywhere. It is what it is.

I am fully aware of what some good treatment can do for my room. But it's not something I want to explore at this stage. I am happy so far.

I know this isn't AV forum, but let me know how the Bentley sound
So far the sound is much bigger/broader and not as focused if that makes any sense. Again I'm no audiophile. Plenty more bass than the B&W's. And the tweater is not as harsh on one's ears as the B&W's. Like a warmer sound.

My amp was originally an Exclame 100. I took it to Oom Schalk to upgrade it to a 150. Ever since then the sound was not as warm as it used to be. So the Bentleys even it out nicely.

Bentley speakers are superb value for money. Well designed and well made
I have no doubt.

I admit I've never heard a set, but when they started producing Bentley, some of the claims of the competitive speakers they bettered were quite bold

I am willing to bet a few months worth of salary that no one here will be able to reliably ABX the most expensive speaker wire vs a wire coat hanger. Neither 256 kbps AAC PCM vs DSD.

Sorry, but "I heard it and it sounds better" is not good enough. If it is not ABX then you are fooling yourself.

Fully agree

Man, people have some weird ideas, ranging from placing a brick on your CD player to freezing your CDs:

At last I have found a series of treatments that, used together, transform the performance of every CD and DVD so much that it is worth all the trouble. So much difference, in fact, that I am eager to treat my entire collection – no small undertaking! In good recordings, the dynamic range seems to increase with sweeter treble and deeper, tighter bass and with lots more information. And much more rhythmic and musical – the music envelopes you as if you are in it rather than observing it. Bad recordings become playable – if not perhaps actually enjoyable!

So what’s the treatment? First, I clean the disc with ReVeel, then freeze it in my deep freeze for at least three days (leaving it for 12 hours in the fridge to warm up slowly). Then I trim the edge with the Audio Desk CD sound improver, then treat both sides in the Nespa CD & DVD Finaliser. Last of all treat it with ReleeS. Simple! It’s a chore, but if I am prepared to treat my entire collection of discs you had better believe I think it’s worth it (good news though – you only have to treat a disc once!)

The engineering geek in me wants this really bad. The rationalist in me feels like I am being taken for a ride.

It is a piece of great engineering though.

Many years back personally dumped R3.2k on 2x 1.5m cable on my audio cable from my pre-amp to my powered monitors. Was a complete noob I had no idea I was throwing money away as the interference is neglible at such a low output from a pre amp to my powered monitors. Of course the guy who I trusted at the specialist audio shop didn't tell me that and was happy to take my money with little to no value to my setup.

That describes Bentleys perfectly. I know you said it's not an option at this stage, but believe me adding some room treatment will make it sound way,way better, even be it only by adding a thick pile carpet to the floor.

It's crap like this that drives me up the wall. Bunch of pseudoscience terms and concepts to justify a R20K power extender plug.

And *of course* they could clearly hear a difference.....

Guess the Amp they used had such a **** power supply that any interference on the mains side went straight to the output....../rolleyes

Since I think the thread answered to question of cheap vs expensive cables, I have an off topic question.

So I have this Targa ta-4100.4 car amplifier at home, and if I google the specs it appears to support 50w rms. I am looking at buying these "Sony XS-GTF6939 420W 3-Way 6X9 Speakers" that runs at 60w rms. Will this be a problem? Am I even looking at the right specs to know if this whole thing will work? I also read somewhere that the Ohm spec of the Amplifier might play an role in the amplifier overheating?

I feel so lost, because every time that I feel I learned something it turns out that its a drop in the endless bucket of music electronics, and on its own doesn't help me much.
