Audio input from dstv explora

Please could you advise what format of audio the explora inputs to the TV via hdmi?

the Explora supports Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, when available, via both HDMI and optical S/PDIF.

The applicable part is "when available". The Explora may be capable of it but that doesn't mean that is what you will get. The same as the specs for the Explora is 1080p capable, but you won't get better than 1080i.

I can confirm DD5.1 via HDMI, since my Explora 2 is wired into my Cambridge Audio AVR, and the latter displays the specs of whatever signal it's receiving.

Most of the new movies and series are in 5.1 on MNet, and so is most of the live sports.

Most other channels are still just plain stereo.
