I recently got a Mede8or. I looked more closely at my Home Theatre unit, and see that it only has stereo input for audio. I cant pass it 5.1 audio in any form. I'm now looking at ways where I can get a unit that accepts 5.1, hopefully it can use my existing speakers, without have to spend thousands on a new home theatre system. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

I'm in the same boat. I have the Mede8er (HDMI), a WII (Component), SD PVR (Svideo), DVD Player (HDMI) and plans to get an HD PVR (HDMI). I'm looking for a system that will take all of my inputs and only have a single HDMI out to the TV - i.e. the Receiver must do all of the switching. First decision - low end Yamaha (or similar) vs High end Samsung/LG/Sony. Then finding something that has all of the inputs and will switch them.

To be honest I don't really care too much between 5.1, 6.1, 7.2 etc.

Any thoughts? opinions?

Cheers

I have an HDPVR, a Mede8er and a Samsung Bluray Player all using HDMI

I looked at loads of different ways of getting it to work with my non HDMI receiver but at the end of the day I just bit the bullet and purchased one. If you want to appreciate the higher quality Bluray Dolby Digital HD and DTS master audio you need a amp that can decode it and play it properly.

I bought myself a Sony 2400es AMP it goes for about R6999.00 at the Sony shop in Eastgate its really great. I use it to run 5 Jamo surround speaker I use the Jamo Classic 8's.

There are cheaper amps with 4 HDMI connectors but they will all cost between R4000 and R7000.

It works great makes all the connections a lot less messier and easier to control with one remote

I have a Yamaha RX-V465 receiver with 4 HDMI inputs, paid R4300. I'm happy with it.
