A company called Parrot released a new game for the iPhone which mixes reality with the fantastic and surreal. It is called AR Drone and was recently unveiled at the CES 2010 show in Las Vegas in the USA.
The idea is to mix reality with the surreal on the iPhone. There is a physical drone that is equipped with video cameras that relays the video to your iPhone on which non-physical enemies are then generated that want to shoot down your drone. You have to then use the controls on the iPhone to defend the drone from these virtual enemies.
This represents an exciting look into the future of gaming by the look of things. This is so cool it is ridiculous! What I would like to see is submarine games for swimming pools that can be played in a similar fashion. Maybe multiplayer games with friends where you can do a little bit of hunting for Red October in your pool even!
The video above is bound to get you excited at the prospect of a new era of physical world gaming mixed with the virtual. I assume new legislation would have to be made to cover the risk of voyeurs exploiting it for less than noble reasons as one can imagine being quite possible when you see that drone fly out the apartment window near the end of the clip. One thing is for sure, there are hours of fun to be had and if this grows the right direction we can see a whole new level of multiplayer games coming out! Give me my submarine please!
