Australia captain Steve Smith gets one-match ban for role in ball tampering row
Smith and David Warner stand down as captain and vice captain
Tim Paine takes over as Gilchrist calls Australia a ‘laughing stock’
Steve Smith has been has been handed a one-match ban, fined 100% of his match fee by the ICC and has stood down as Australia captain for the remainder of the third Test against South Africa after admitting his team deliberately tampered with the ball. The vice captain David Warner has also stood down while Cameron Bancroft has been fined 75% of his match fee and handed three demerit points.
Smith accepted the ICC charge of serious conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game and the ban. Bancroft pleaded guilty to the breaching level two of the ICC code of conduct.

The ICC’s chief executive, David Richardson, said: “The decision made by the leadership group of the Australian team to act in this way is clearly contrary to the spirit of the game, risks causing significant damage to the integrity of the match, the players and the sport itself and is therefore ‘serious’ in nature. As captain, Steve Smith must take full responsibility for the actions of his players and it is appropriate that he be suspended.
“The game needs to have a hard look at itself. In recent weeks we have seen incidents of ugly sledging, send-offs, dissent against umpires’ decisions, a walk-off, ball tampering and some ordinary off-field behaviour.”

Smith, Warner and Bancroft will continue to play in the rest of the third Test, but wicketkeeper Tim Paine will act as captain for the remaining two days of play.

Does he have form? Cameron Bancroft caught allegedly pocketing sugar during Ashes
CONCERNING footage has emerged of Australian cricketer Cameron Bancroft allegedly putting a spoonful of sugar in his pocket during the Ashes.

But England paceman Stuart Broad says he doesn’t believe the Australian cricket team tampered with the ball during the sides’ recent Ashes series — and can’t understand why they’d resort to cheating at all.

Deeper? You think he shoved sand paper up his arse to hide the evidence?
Maybe. There is suspicions that this was not the first time the Aussies tampered with the ball, if that is the case expect more investigations and dirt to come out once they are back in Oz

Smith, Warner, Lehmann in sights as Sutherland flies to SA

Further action against Australia captain Steven Smith, deputy David Warner, the coach Darren Lehmann and any other implicated members of the South Africa touring party will be confirmed by Wednesday morning, enough time for replacement players and staff to be flown to Johannesburg ahead of the fourth and final Test of a series now synonymous with the ball-tampering fiasco of Cape Town.

In the face of universal outrage from Cricket Australia's corporate sponsors and amid negotiations for the next round of broadcast rights, the chief executive James Sutherland will travel to Johannesburg to assess the findings of the integrity officer Iain Roy's hurried investigation into the events of the Newlands Test, which commenced at the Australian team hotel in Cape Town on Monday.

While the CA's code-of-behaviour (CoB) charges likely to be brought against numerous members of the Australian team will require CoB commission hearings, with the right to natural justice and procedural fairness are also enshrined in its terms, the board will have the option of standing down any players or coaching staff found to be in breach until the hearing or hearings can be held with an independent commissioner.

How SuperSport's cameramen caught Bancroft red-handed

Cape Town - Australian opener Cameron Bancroft may have got away with his now infamous attempt to alter the condition of the ball in the third Test against South Africa at Newlands had he not panicked and attempted to hide the evidence down his trousers.

That's the belief of Alvin Naicker, the head of production at host broadcaster SuperSport and the man in the director's chair who broke one of cricket's greatest scandals.

Steven Smith steps down as Rajasthan Royals captain following ball-tampering scandal

Steven Smith has "stepped down" as captain of Rajasthan Royals for the 2018 IPL season, in the wake of his admission to orchestrating a plan to tamper with the ball during the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town. India batsman Ajinkya Rahane will lead Royals, who are returning to the IPL this year after serving a two-year ban for corruption during the 2013 season of the tournament.

Both Smith and Rahane had represented the now defunct Rising Pune Supergiant franchise for the last two years while Royals served the ban. Smith had been retained by the returning Royals franchise ahead of the 2018 IPL player auction, while Rahane was bought back for INR 4 crore (USD 625,000 approx) using a right-to-match card.

Though Smith will not lead Royals, he will available for selection. According to the franchise, only if Smith gets banned by Cricket Australia or if the BCCI says he cannot play, will he not play the IPL.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how will the sugar affect the ball?

Actually, I have the opposite theory: sugar, when mixed with saliva, would make the shiny side of the ball shinier (see Faf du Plessis and the mint). Similar net effect though.

What Faffy did was not wrong imo. He used his enhanced saliva via some mint ball to polish one side of the ball. CA being a poweful board ensured ICC punished Faffy unfairly.

Warner and CA headed for Pietersen-ECB parting

David Warner and Cricket Australia may be headed the same way as Kevin Pietersen and the ECB, with the vice-captain increasingly isolated as the instigator of the ball-tampering incident that has blown up into a perfect storm.

In reference to the view within the team that Warner had hatched the idea and delegated it to his opening partner Cameron Bancroft with the captain Steven Smith's approval, ESPNcricinfo has been told "the truth is starting to come out". With the CA Board holding a teleconference with the head of integrity Iain Roy and the chief executive James Sutherland following the former's hurried investigation, sources close to the board confirmed Warner "is the issue".

Where were these guys when Warner was acting like a c*nt?

They were probably enjoying the fact that he was unsettling the saffers.

Now they emerge from the woodworks to address the scandal.
