I think this is the price that we're looking at - possibly even more :(

Sony has locked in 17 November as the Australian launch date for the PlayStation 3, just in time for Christmas. The system will come in two bundles -- a PS3 with a 20GB hard drive (confirmed RRP of AU$829) and one with a 60GB HDD (confirmed RRP of AU$999).

I think that $ony made a mistake with pricing the PS3 @ $500 (basic) & $600 (premium).

The XBOX360 premium comes in @ $400. This price will probably drop
when the PS3 gets released.

+ with Rockstar announcing they're not PS3 exclusive anymore how many other Dev are planning this?


Anyway, we'll see how it pans out. I'll keep watching the Wii though, only thing that's different.

I dont know what the exchange rate is between Rand and AUS$ but :

South African PS3 release date announced

Sony announced on Wednesday that it would launch the PlayStation 3 next-generation games console throughout mainland Europe and Australasia on November 17, 2006, as part of a worldwide simultaneous launch.

David Hadassin, CEO of SterKinekor Games, the local distributors of PlayStation, told Talk Radio 702 on Wednesday that the console is expected to be launched in South Africa on the same day and added that the retail cost of the high-end console is expected to be in the region of R5 000.

The Ster Kinekor PS manager said on 702 that the 20GB should be around R4000 and the 60GB around R5000. I think it will be higher. I wonder how MS are going to price the Xbox 360 and if they are going to push to beat the 17 November launch date.

I'll put that R5000 -> R6000 into my PC for Gaming and R2000 into a Wii for alternative gaming. The Wii is something new & fresh. Well, except for the crappy name ;)

Having seen the content and content being developed for the Xbox360 i'm also tempted to look at that before the PS3.

Soz $ony, overcharging, DRM's, lack of content for my PSP, you're just not cutting it for me.
 
They must just stay with their plan of releasing Halo2 for Vista as a special then I wont even have to go to Xbox...otherwise I will have to make a plan
 
i am seeking to add the Wii into the next-gen console to have... currently the PS3 line up has not impressed me as i am not a FF or MGS fan... and other than MGS4 what else is on Sony's plate? Nada.
 
/agree:cool: i'll add that R6000 to my Dell XPS or Area51 Alienware notebook :p (don't have em yet)
 
Wii will definelty make ripples in SA if its marketed properly, unlike the vapourlike presence of the GC in SA... shame.
