Right wing propaganda, I was following the story on another political forum. CNN totally debunked the rumour.

His wife, Michelle, and his two daughters, Malia, 8, and Sasha, 5, live on Chicago's South Side where they attend Trinity United Church of Christ.

JAKARTA, Indonesia (CNN) -- Allegations that Sen. Barack Obama was educated in a radical Muslim school known as a "madrassa" are not accurate, according to CNN reporting.

Insight Magazine, which is owned by the same company as The Washington Times, reported on its Web site last week that associates of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-New York, had unearthed information the Illinois Democrat and likely presidential candidate attended a Muslim religious school known for teaching the most fundamentalist form of Islam.

Obama lived in Indonesia as a child, from 1967 to 1971, with his mother and step-father and has acknowledged attending a Muslim school, but an aide said it was not a madrassa.

Insight attributed the information in its article to an unnamed source, who said it was discovered by "researchers connected to Senator Clinton." A spokesman for Clinton, who is also weighing a White House bid, denied that the campaign was the source of the Obama claim.

He called the story "an obvious right-wing hit job."

Insight stood by its story in a response posted on its Web site Monday afternoon.

The Insight article was cited several times Friday on Fox News and was also referenced by the New York Post, The Glenn Beck program on CNN Headline News and a number of political blogs.
School not a madrassa

But reporting by CNN in Jakarta, Indonesia and Washington, D.C., shows the allegations that Obama attended a madrassa to be false. CNN dispatched Senior International Correspondent John Vause to Jakarta to investigate.

He visited the Basuki school, which Obama attended from 1969 to 1971.

"This is a public school. We don't focus on religion," Hardi Priyono, deputy headmaster of the Basuki school, told Vause. "In our daily lives, we try to respect religion, but we don't give preferential treatment."

Vause reported he saw boys and girls dressed in neat school uniforms playing outside the school, while teachers were dressed in Western-style clothes.

"I came here to Barack Obama's elementary school in Jakarta looking for what some are calling an Islamic madrassa ... like the ones that teach hate and violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan," Vause said on the "Situation Room" Monday. "I've been to those madrassas in Pakistan ... this school is nothing like that."

Vause also interviewed one of Obama's Basuki classmates, Bandug Winadijanto, who claims that not a lot has changed at the school since the two men were pupils. Insight reported that Obama's political opponents believed the school promoted Wahhabism, a fundamentalist form of Islam, "and are seeking to prove it."

"It's not (an) Islamic school. It's general," Winadijanto said. "There is a lot of Christians, Buddhists, also Confucian. ... So that's a mixed school."

The Obama aide described Fox News' broadcasting of the Insight story "appallingly irresponsible."

Fox News executive Bill Shine told CNN "Reliable Sources" anchor Howard Kurtz that some of the network's hosts were simply expressing their opinions and repeatedly cited Insight as the source of the allegations.

Obama has noted in his two books, "Dreams From My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope," that he spent two years in a Muslim school and another two years in a Catholic school while living in Indonesia from age 6 to 10.

Yes I am sure he has the USA's best interests at heart. His religion is his way of life and his responsibilty is first and foremost to his religion. I don't say he is rootiung for Bin laden but he is definitely going to withdraw all us forces from wherever there are muslims if he by some slight chance becomes pres.

Arguably speaking, if an American president is religious, his first obligation will always be towards his God. Just because he is Muslim, doesnt mean that he should be any different.

ALso, whats wrong with him withdrawing from countries which the US have invaded. I am sure that if America had invaded a christian country, people would be reacting the same way. America has gone to war not to fight any regime and to free people, they invaded Iraq for oil.....whats wrong with Obama wanting to withdraw in light thereof. Also, if you look at it objectively, America has secured its interests, in that it now has access to the oil. The war in Iraq is not a religious war, its a war based on natural resources. The fact that the people being invaded are muslim is just a convenient coincidence.

I do not disagree that Islamic terrorsits do exist and are on a daily basis causing problems for certain people, but I reiterate, that this is probably just a convenient coincidence for Bush.

Some times it has shown Diplomacy fails. Time for action. It has clearly failed in Iran and Syria as they continue funding the terrorists and providing resources as well. Iran is going nuclear whether you want to face it or not. When it happens it will be quite funny to see all the people who said they are using it for peaceful purposes.

Long gone are the days when nations fought for political or religious belief. Today wars are fought solely over natural resources. The greatest wars are yet to come, and they will not be fought over oil but over water.

IMO China will PROBABLY be the first country to go to war for water. China will run out of drinkable water in just over five years.

All is fair in love and war...I mean its war mate.....If you go to war with people, then you kill them..to death. America also kills children, usually as colalteral damage. They usually apologise, or say that they regret it....but i dont know why? War is an ugly thing and your aim is to kill people.

There is NOTHING wrong with what America is doing in Iraq, but this statement is made in the framework of war. If you are more powerful than another nation and desire somehting they have, you invade and kill them, subjugate them and take what you want. Theonly problem I have is that America is claiming teh high ground and misrepresenting its motives.

Obviously the people who strap on bombs and kill lots of people as well as themselves are depserate. When fighting a war, why stand in teh open when you enemy out guns you. You fight guerilla style. Hit them hard and fast where is hurts the most. If I were in their position, and I was filled with as much hate as the proabably are....I wouldnt kill myself, but I would create as much havoc as possible.
