Yea some of them seem a bit odd, i thought unemployment was high in south america but from the wiki link it seems i was wrong or the governments are lying and pulling figures out their asses.

Look at the central african republic figure, can't be right.

I would assume that all govts would want to manipulate these figures downwards, but in the developed countries it's hard to hide unemployment from the opposition because they would want the figures to be higher, and if you thousands rioting on a regular basis with placards demanding jobs, then trying to convince people that you have a sub-5% unemployment rate is going to hard:)

The UK unemployment rates are debated very often in the press. It's based on people who have registered for unemployment benefits. It should be accurate but it won't include(I don't think):
1. People on perm disability. Because they aren't employable anyway
2. Most illegal immigrants
3. People on part time work who lost their perm jobs(some just refuse charity and won't go on benefits out of pride)
4. Zero hour contracts. These are people like care workers who get called at the last minute to cover for someone. This is quite common in UK in the hospitality industries. Sometime these people only get a few hours work each week.
5. Young people who do extra year studying another course because they can't get work. Will have more well off parents.

Usual, but in the UK this has been intentionally made broader and broader to get more people onto disability, so they won't be in the unemployed figures.

Dying in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw, and nothin' much to say
I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?"
And he said,

"Oh, you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah)
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? (ooohh)
You better run, you better take cover."

They've been having it all along :p

In the last 2 years they have changed the means testing to get people off disability who can work, even with a disability
