An interview in yesterdays sunday times with Butana Komphela, who is the chairman of the parliamentry Portfolio commitee on sport.

He was asked the following question.... lol

What is your view on the Australian rugby players not wanting to hold the Mandela Plate after beating Amabokoboko?

Australia has a history of racism. If you recall, during the times of the struggle for non-racial sport it was Australia who were pumping apartheid South Africa with rebel tours. I was not surprised to see them do what they did That is the same country where South African expats wave the Vierkleur flag and Indians are called terrorists. Remember when Hashim Amla took a catch? An Australian commentator said something like `another wicket for the terrorist'.
That country has deep-rooted racism and hatred for blacks, including an international icon such as Nelson Mandela. They regard him as one of the kaffirs.

Clearly, this guy is irked by aussies. Perhaps he has many insecurites and blames australia for everything.

Someone should give him a big hug, he needs it.

Disgraceful that a representative of ours is allowed to get away with such vitriol. Needless to say I am not holding my breath for his immediate sacking.

And since when has it become acceptable to use derogatory terms in official statements by official representatives of the country?

Regardless of the reason, there have been a number of racist encounters with regards to the Aussies. Remember the cricket?

Yeah, was Ntini the victim that time? Can't remember. But I think this time it was more because we fielded a second rate side as opposed to them having something against Madiba. At least their rugby union apologized for their pathetic behaviour..

i heard about this and i was thinking to myself

why did aussies not accept the cup, was it because we sent out B team ?

have the aussies explained why they did not accept the cup with a good decent manner?

Are you saying that his response was justified?

...link to the story please...

It was in the sports section of the sunday times. There is even a lovely, smiley photo of him. :D He was asked many other questions, but this one was the first one he pounced upon.

Whether or not that's the reason, he highlighted the racism issue experienced down there. Is there a link to the original interview?

The only racist in this case is Komphela

The refusal to handle the trophy was a protest against the B side springboks touring for the Tri-nations. It had nothing to do with race.

If I were Australian rugby I'd refuse to play against SA until this chop was fired.

Thanks, I'll check it out...

...bunch of sheep shaggers...they shouldn't have honoured the fixture...or whatever...it's really pathetic...

Watching Matt Giteau, he practically ran away from the trophy. Pathetic is the right word, just accept the trophy and be done with it.
