High All

As before, my sister in law is with iBurst and AGAIN she is having trouble connecting to the network. Will not authenticate even if router is not used.

Call to the helldesk proved as frustrating as always. The usual helpless ideology of denying there is any problem and that it is all the user's doing.

When she authenticates she cannot do anything at speeds any faster than 300b/s. The iBurst wepage cannot even load!!!

Anyone else having any authentication / speed issues? Any ideas of what else to try apart from Neotel (oh why no ethernet devices Neotel)....

 I have just seen on their website... radio problems on the JHB network.Incident report last updated 06 / 06 / 08.

AAAAArgh. Helldesk could have pointed this out to her instead of the move the modem gymnatics!!!!

WHEN WILL THIS F@RKING COMPANY JUST DISSOLVE AND DIE ??

Recommend iBurst Alternatives...

Hi guys...

I have recommended my sister in-law looks for an iBust replacement before the 1st September so she can cancel her month to month... she has been with them for 3.5 years and this last year has been an absolute nightmare. On again - off again hit and miss affair. iBust just is no longer tolerable. The helldesk I suspect has been the final nail in their coffin. Absolute crud they come up with.

I was thinking Neotel or perhaps Cybersmart (because of the low top-up costs).

Does not do any gaming... so latency no problem. She works from home and needs ALWAYS on RELIABLE internet access.

Any suggestions... ?

Hi

All I can suggest is ADSL. That's what I am going for. I am not about to go down this road again with Neotel. Once bitten.... twice shy.

depends on if she can get dsl... dsl also had major issues last nite for me :(

Mine has been really sh** today, I think ive been disconnected at least 3 or 4 times in the last 20-30 minutes using both the router and having the modem plugged into my computer. Becoming extremely frustrating...

*End Venting of frustration :)

I am having the same problems and was busy with internet banking and the connection dropped when I made a payment and now I still cant get the proof of payment but it went throug and I can see it in my statement.

I phoned Iburst helpdesk today about the problems 2 times and also gave my cell no and they say that they are now working on the problem

If by working they meant make it worse and make my connection drop every 20 minutes...then ya they are working real hard!

Dropped connections was the order of the day this weekend- hampering my contributions to the community.

Anyway soon I'll be rid of this iBurps crap!

Hi again

A quick update...

After a terrible weekend of constant disconnects... she phoned the helldesk yesterday... after a run-around she was given a reference number and told that there WAS a problem in her area and it will be fixed ASAP. Ibust also promised to update her.

Today... again authentication issues... frequent disconnects (every 5 to 20mins) so she phones them again. Another run around ensued with almost a complete audit of SOFTWARE required that she is running on her laptop!! A few choice words from her side and the call is transferred to someone else who claimed that there is "NO WAY to tell if there are issues with a base-station unless they send out THE technician".

Un F@RKING believable. Once THE technician has inspected the base-station, he will then call on her and see if there is a SOFTWARE problem on her laptop. A "service" she will have to pay for.

It is funny I find that every call I receive from her regarding this very issue occurs on Thursday afternoon, Friday morning or Monday morning. So I guess it must be software that is running on these days only preventing her from being authenticated by iBust. I guess too that this very same software is also responsible for the 300bs max speeds and frequent disconnects. It is funny how this software also affects whatever machine you connect the iBust modem to. She has been down this road MANY times before. Even bought the aerial as instructed.

Funny too how this "software" did not affect her her prior to Mr. Knott-Craig's (Mr. Ricoffy) fine-tuning the service. Perhaps too co-incidental.

Any how the long and the short of it... she has signed up with Cybersmart month to month... has requested the cancellation form from iBust... so one less software issue for them to manage on the network.

Sigh. I shall miss her weekly calls and tales about the helldesk.

Sniff.

Hi

She is Randburg near Cresta...

iBust have blamed her router... her MTU settings... Vista... Xp... Software... next door's cat and the brand of coffee she drinks.

OK.... they've put up new basestations near Cresta... therefore it could be the dreaded BS hop syndrome.

Does she use an antenna/Do you have an antenna?

Hi

Yes she does have one... same problem with or without. It seems as if it is an end-of week thing. worse around month-end.... and NO not because of capping. She has also indicated that her max speeds have dwindled. Around Jan they were near the 110K and now seldom break the 38K barrier. Youtube stammers, stutters, skype ok voice, no go video. Late at night things sometimes fly again... but that too is a rare occurrence.

I had an issue last week where I just couldnt authenticate, I phoned the helpdesk, they told me it was a billing issue. I went through to billing and was told that their system had tried to bill my credit card, but it failed, so it locked my account.... After she ran it again manually it went through successfully.

Wow.. A miracle. No issue so far today... issues cleared up yesterday afternoon after mys sister in law really gave the helldesk what for. Apparently the polite inquiry route does not work. She said that she really let them have it.

So, vloek and threaten seems to get the damn modem to authenticate AND STAY CONNECTED at a usable speed!!!!

Funny, the software vagary that was pinpointed as the cause is still running on her laptop... she is still waiting for THE technician to phone her back.

P.s. I wonder if the iBust / dial a nerd partnership might result in the number of chargeable call-outs increasing seeing as SOFTWARE problems on the subscriber side are responsible for the iBust stability issues. The helldesk was VERY quick to OFFER this technical call-out service to her... very insistent in fact. Go figure.

So have I... at 7AM this morning I tried to log into MyBroadband, only to discover the router had given up trying to authenticate. This must have happened during the early hours of this morning or last night.

After a hard reset it all worked again, but slow as molasses.

Knock Knock Knock Knock

Hi All

Friday here.

No authentication for her AGAIN.

ANYONE else out there had an issue this morning between 7am and 9:30am??

Helldesk says that she was the ONLY person having an issue in the whole of JHB.

sigh.
