Auto Dealers’ Guide

Hello fair folks of mybb.

I am currently doing a thesis on used car prices and need access to a database of said prices. I have read up on the Auto Dealers’ Guide of 2012 but none of the sources say whether the guide includes ACTUAL data of each sale they base their valuations on and not just say an approximation of the price. I'll be running a regression based on mileage, make, model & whatever data they have available. I would not want to buy the guide to find out it is useless to me.

If anyone could shed insight on this matter and/or perhaps upload a sample entry of what's contained, it would be much appreciated. And if this is not for me, any suggestions to where I could find such a dataset?

(I would phone up the folks who distribute the guide but they are closed for the day and I'd like to get this information as soon as possible)

There's an android app that has the actual prices for each make/model etc. As far as I know the data is based on actual prices dealers bought/sold at. But then the dealers base most of that on this same guide...

So they give the actual sales they have recorded and not just give you one sales figure averaging them out.

I am not sure if this is the sort of data that TransUnion will give away.

Have you considered putting your proposal to them directly? If you have a decent business case, they might give you access to some data in return for a copy of the thesis. You never know. It's worth a try.
