Anyone running currently?

We're going to be selling these wireless relays shortly that link to smartphones / remotes for - supposed to be - wireless control of lighting. It works well and I can control my light with voice / remote / app and set timers/ schedules / countdowns etc.

But I'm wondering if it can do more?
Is it possible tap off the water supply in the garden (bypass the tap) and have an electric solenoid opening / closing valve?
Are these typically low voltage? The relay is 110-240v - would using this voltage near water be dangerous?
Anyone else running automated irrigation?
 
Ye we have one in our garden.
The solenoids are very low voltage...like 24v or something.
Using 240v would not be a good idea.
 
Do you know what the system is?

Just a small wireless relay sitting between a switch and globe ... app corrects to it via WiFi to control on/off. Aside from an app, you get a standard 433mhz remote connecting to it and Amazon Dot, so you operate via your voice.

People use them for water feature pumps / lights etc do remotely turn on entertainment ; or even fans and heaters. But I wanted to try irrigation - seems the 240v thing is going to be the issue though
 
I'm running a rainbird system at home. No idea what specs on the solenoids though.
 
How do you get the 220V to the solenoid via WiFi?

All irrigation systems run standard 24V AC solenoid valves.

This is how it works.

The relay is 802.11 and connects (traditionally) between a light switch and a globe. That relay is 240v - so incoming and outgoing are 240v.

People replace that globe with different appliances like ceiling fans, water feature fountains or any other 240v gadget to be controlled via Amazon Dot / 433mhz remote or mobile. You can even hook up a temperature sensor to the automatically switch the appliance at a certain temperature.

What I hoped to do was connect it to a relay and control my sprinklers.

Price? How many channels on the relay - most lightswitches i have is 4? Let me get this right, this thing doesnt need external power and interfaces via wifi?

Scenario: I can set up IFTTT and then use Google Assistant/Siri to switch individual lights on and off - without any further component-installs other than wiring this inline in the lightswitch?
 
We haven't received our first shipment to test yet (or even calculate full landing price, should there be a snag). However, you'd be looking at around R130.00 for the basic single channel and R200.00 for a single. No 3 or 4 channel, unfortunately.

I don't have Google Assistant / Siri to test with the unit I have - but I do it with my Amazon Dots, 'Alexa, turn off the lounge'with no issue at all. And yes, simply in line.

But, how cool would it have been to say 'Alexa, turn on the sprinkler' ....

We plan on going live with selling on 01 September, so I'll know for sure what works and what can't ;)

This. Mine has been running uninterrupted since install. I've actually forgotten the password... so going to need to open everything up.
 
Yup - as long as your pool pump doesn't draw too much load.

The units are all 90-250v AC with the Basic and RF max load being 10A, and the POW being 16A / 3500w. POW gives you current and historic power usage as well in neat little graphs (http://sonoff.itead.cc/en/products/sonoff/sonoff-pow)

Aside from countdown / timer / schedule, you can share use of the device to another user to control - ie if you're not happy with a standard schedule (ie water level may low or whatever), you can share the pump with a neighbor to control.
 
Will be neat if I can install this inside the light switch in the wall as I can then turn ceiling lights on/off when on holiday so it seems as if I'm home ?
 
If there's enough space, you can behind a switch. Certainly that's the most convenient as you *may* need access in the rare event it unsyncs from the app.

If not, you can install in the roof just before the base of the light.

I got this unit as well http://sonoff.itead.cc/en/products/residential/slampher-rf which may or may not work. The negatives are :

* Only E27 fitting
* The extra length means it could peak out of a lamp
