I wonder if someone here has some experience to troubleshoot automatic garage doors. I watched few videos and read up 2 articles but so far, none of them describe exact problem I face.

When I use remote or wall switch, light goes up and there is a faint click but door doesn't open
If I use bypass cord (to switch to manual mode - and back to auto) once or twice and then use remote, it starts working and door opens.

We got 2 remotes and batteries should be fine and since it doesn't work with wall switch, chances are that remote is not the issues.

Any response will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Make and model of Garage Doors Opener?

sure the battery of the garage opener isnt dead? (not remote) some of these openers for eg gate wont open even if the power is on if the battery is dead,

If you override motor by pulling cord , how easy do door open by hand ?
Thanks, just tried. Not very hard although I never used this particular door using manual mode before. It kind of opens in the same effort as the other door with manual mode.

Thanks. So, this is what happens. I fiddle with the cord (manual and then auto) and then door opens with remote. So, in my total newbie opinion, battery should be ok. Also, light goes up even if door opens or not.

Thanks. It says Centurion - could be this one - https://www.centsys.co.za/x-trac/
This motor use the metal channel as a negative to get power to the motor which runs up and down the channel.

It has metal plates along the sides of the unit where you pull the cord which touches on the sides inside the channel.

Clean the channel on the inside along the sides especially where the unit sits in the open and closed position.

Most of the time this is caused by grease build up in the channel which leads to bad contact and no proper power delivery to the motor.

Wow - This is very detail - thank you very much for taking time to write this. Will try it.

I had a similar problem with a Pro Alpha 2000. The motor turns (makes its opening noises) but the actual spiral does not turn at all. Some oke told me it is the gear in the motor. Another china had the same opener and gave it to me but now the entire traveller is too long. FML! Now I have to make a working motor from two.

My apologies, thread necro...

I was glad I found this post as we have a Centurion Xtrac which worked fine until a few days ago, I thought it was batteries so got new ones, it worked for a few more days and then stopped altogether. Got our garage/gate guys in, said the PSU is probably FUBAR, so need to look at replacing with a new garage door motor setup. I got out my multi meter to check what was going on and found that there was only 140V supplied to the PSU, got my electrician in who found a FUBAR plug point that had shorted and taken out a neutral. Got that fixed and am back on to the garage motor, which worked with the run button until this morning where using the run button, a remote or the wall remote yields a click and flashing light bulb. I cleaned up the running track, well the side without the chain but still cannot get the motor to run, where it did at least run until I closed the garage using the run button last night. Any ideas? I really want to avoid having to shell out for a new motor setup...

I am busy trying a board reset, based on this...

Reset the board

1. Remove both mains and battery power
2. Move all dip switches to the on position
3. Hold both the run and the learn buttons down and re-apply power
4. Wait for the lights to flash rapidly and then stop
5. Release the learn and program buttons
6. Remove Power
7. All dip switches off except 1 and 6
8. Re-apply power

Then...

Remove all remotes

1. Press the learn button
2. The light flashes once a second
3. Then press and hold the run button, until the rapid flashing stops
4. All remotes should now be erased including the wall console.
5. Add remotes in the usual way

And finally...

Programming – Open Close

Function One – Open/Close -This function is associated with opening and closing the door only. Operation Momentarily press the associated transmitter button to open, stop or close the door. If the door is busy closing, pressing the transmitter button will cause the door to immediately reverse its direction of travel and start opening. If, on the other hand, the door is busy opening, pressing the transmitter button will cause the door to stop. Pressing the transmitter button a second time will cause the door to reverse its direction of travel and start closing.

Learning procedure - Press the Learn button ONCE. The LED indicator will now flash once every two seconds, indicating that Function One Learn has been selected. Take the remote control or wall pendant that must be learned into the system, press and hold the desired button for three seconds. The onboard buzzer will emit one long beep followed by one short beep if the transmitter has been successfully learned. Proceed this way to learn any other transmitter in the system to operate Function One only. The system will remain in this learn mode for 10 seconds after the last remote or wall pendant is learned and automatically exit after this time. The function can be learned to any button, provided that the button has not yet been learned to another function.

Got one remote and the wall remote working and the garage door motor is behaving itself thus far. Need to get the wife's remote working again.
