Autonomous (driverless) vehicles - Google gets approval in Nevada

So I came across this interesting bit of news and I figured I'd post it. What are your thoughts on it (I can't figure out how to create a poll)?

On the one hand I can understand why some might be against it (most of us have seen 2001: A Space Odyssey and we're all afraid of what HAL may do) but at the same time if it abides by all the rules of the road then surely it would be a much safer thing especially in countries like ours where human drivers typically don't follow these rules EVERY SINGLE DAY I'm on the road (taxis, stop-street "skippers", speeders, little old laddies, etc.).

The Nevada legislature passed AB 511, authorizing the use of autonomous (i.e., driverless) vehicles; the bill was approved by the Governor on 16 June and it enters into law.
Ryan Calo, Director of the Center for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School observes that this appears to be the first law officially to sanction the technology.
The new law charges the Nevada Department of Transportation (DOT) with setting safety and performance standards and requires it to designate areas where driverless cars may be tested.

I'm sure it's still quite far away from actually benefiting us right now but I kinda like the idea!
