AutoPedigree used car nightmare!

"how much do you plan to spend?" is a total no-no in my book. Sell me a car rather....and they are still too lazy to do that....the general attitude: why bother and waste their time IF you are not going to buy...

I have no problem with this. Seriously, if you walk into a place to buy something SURELY you know what sort of money you would like to spend. Where is the guy meant to start? With a R 750 000-00 Vehicle and work his way down or what. When I was looking for a car I knew what I was willing to spend, why waste the guys time? Tell him what you want at what price and it willl make both your lives a ot easier.

I fully agree with you. Salesmen are not supposed to be psychic when it comes to what the tyre kicker wants to spend, and you have to establish some sort of baseline to start from.

The art is also to tell the difference between a tyre kicker and a genuine buyer and then go with it. I have seen other salesmen lose prime deals whilst they chat to some moegoe who has no intention of buying a car. It is great when enthusiastic guys come on to the floor, but if you have no intention of buying, tell the salesman, and if he wants to hang around and chat, then that's fine, don't just waste his time, however.

Ok, now what about the finance application process: seems like dealers prefer only to finance with MFC (Motor Finance Corporation) and not with other banks. Yes I was told 'we apply with all banks and get the best interest rate' yet only got results from MFC. Autopedigree dealership said it takes longer for the banks, but when I phoned mine they had the answer ready with a favourable interest rate (better than MFC). So apart from feeling cheated with the car being sold, I've been had with the interest rate.

How much commission does financing yield to the dealership anyway- or is that a secret...?

Sounds like you need to stay FAR away from this autopedigree dealership... They don't have your best interests at heart at all and are just out to get as much cash from you as possible.

Sorry bud, but do yourself a favour and don't go near that Autopedigree branch ever, ever again!!

Most dealers have a Financial guy or girl on the floor, and it is their duty to get you the best possible deal. Wesbank is first port of call 99% of the time as they are the one crowd totally centered on car finance, but if you are, for example, a a Nedbank client, it is also correct for them to hand your application to Nedbank or any other bank you so desire!!

Sadly you appear to have found a huge ripoff merchant, and I would go as far as to actually get your whole story together and report them to the MIF - this whole story reeks of your old shady second hand car dealer, that they have been trying desperately to get rid of for years.

I am not sure where you are, but we actually deliver cars all over the country, so if you PM me, I can happily try and find you a better deal.

If I buy a car privately, does anyone know what paperwork I need to do? Generally cars are cheaper going private- so maybe its an option to explore. Thanks in advance.

i speak under correction. u have to make sure the car is paid off or not. if its not i think it complicates things. if it is - but i reckon you must get something that says that it has a zero balance. then when you pay u get a rwc and march to the traffic department and put it on your name. if u getting finance they might have an additional form for you as well. not so sure about if there is a balance owing...

Uhm, AutoPedigree sells rentals - and that is something you never want to buy.

Why not? Most people drive rentals the same way they drive their own cars, and if you did get the odd idiot who thinks he's on a racetrack, at least it was only driven by him for a few days. If you end up buying the same idiot's everyday car, you'll have more problems than with a rental.

The best 4x4xFar is a rental car. When last did you drive a rental car below 3000rpm when it was still cold? Do you know why rental companies sell their cars with about 40,000km on the clock? That is usually when they start giving problems because of excess abuse.

Might I suggest you look into the rationale behind a rental in the first place Mr Roux.

People who rent cars expect to drive a current model with a fairly low mileage, because they are paying for the privilege to do so.

Rentals are replaced annually or at about 30 000 km as that is the accepted norm to write the company debt off on a rental car...it works the same way with "demo" cars - but you should know that, as you are the local GM rep...

Rental cars are also serviced "By the Book' and do not suddenly start giving problems as 99% of the work done on them is preventative maintenance. I have bought several "ex Avis" cars over the years, and not one has ever given me a problem. If you personally drive a rental like a halfwit, do not presume that the rest of the world does as well.

I not only drive a rental like a halfwit - I drive anything with wheels like a halfwit. Hence I require cars that are well built and not driven by the majority of posers on the road. While my choice in brand is influenced by that I definitely do not want a car that was driven by people who could not care less about it. And not one or two or ten - thousands of drivers per single car. From a "well looked after" point of view a rental makes the least sense. Its owner does not drive it and only keeps it with the idea of selling it at a low mileage before it becomes a problem car. All rentals are bought WITHOUT maintenance plan so they are serviced in a manner that is as profitable to the rental company as possible.

The only thing you get more out of on a rental than on a normal car is body putty.

I shouldn't even reply to this, but it never ceases to amaze me how you will happily pronounce to the world that you are a halfwit, and then try and justify it!

Dude, the world needs people like me - not only to show then the other side but also because sometimes you need a balance. Now apart from the halfwit fact you cannot really argue with the rest of what I wrote. Rentals are sold for a reason and should be avoided for that very reason.

Yes, the rentals are sold for the reason that they are 12 months old...that's one hell of a reason to avoid them...

They did you a favour - Atos has got to be the worst car I have ever had the unfortunate pleasure of driving.

Precisly. Why would anyone sell a car after that period of time? Unless...

Now, after admitting that you are a halfwit, you admit to not being able to read as well. Rentals are automatically sold after a year in order to maintain a new fleet.

What surprises me most is that you haven't yet accused Avis et al of colluding with VW in order to artificially boost their sales.

 Crikey, I thought all of this drama was over a Picanto!!

I would be delivering a crate of champagne to the dealer right now for not allowing me to buy an Atos!!
