I have a Sony DH510 hooked up to my Samsung 50P450 and I am experiencing something weird.

It seems I can only get Dolby 5.1 if I enable the TV's AV receiver function on the TV menu itself, can't remember the name of it, but you can switch it on or off.

If enable, I then get 5.1 dolby when available, but the issue is that I then can't use my DSTV remote to adjust the volume. :wtf: It seems to only be on a few channels, the HD ones mostly I think.

It seems like as soon as 5.1 is detected then I can't adjust the volume with the DSTV remote. Weird.

Any ideas?

Edit: Sorry posted the thread before putting in the full title. doh! :p

I reckon the decoder passes through the audio to your AVR. Only explanation I can give :erm:

Yup...

if you have a Digital audio connection then from what I've gathered DSTV just passes the signal straight through to the amp... (on channels that have 5.1 that is)...

Got a shock a few times trying to figure out why my setup had no sound, then changed to a HD channel and nearly got blown away cos the amp was on bloody LOUD.

Use the relay option on the DSTV remote so that you control the amp audio directly with the decoder remote

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Smurf, how exactly do you do that? Looked around the DSTV menu, couldn't find anything on relays.

Basically you program your amps volume controls onto say Dial A, you can relay those controls to other dials.
The remote manuals are in here

Read here

You can relay volume to your receiver and also control functionality if you assign it to an item on the dial (although some of the mapping is quite random depending on your receiver model)
