Hi folks,

For sometime, I have intermittent interference on my 2nd TV in the bedroom which is receiving its signal from an Xtraview STB in the lounge ... for sometime it would be fine, but for a few days, the signal, although you can see no snowing on the bouncing images, the TV jumps as if there is interference. It goes away for around 2-3 weeks and then returns.

So, I want to get rid of the coax and thought of going for an A/V wireless solution. I found 3 options and I'd like to know which one would be suitable .. I also want to know from the fact that you're living with the devices how they perform, any issues you've experienced, etc

1. Ellies A/V Sender Wizard .. this I can pick up at Builders Warehouse for around R850 or so, but man, the receiver/transmitter have a really **** design and looks bulky.

2. Then there is 2.4Ghz Wireless AV Sender with IR Extender (Wireless Composite / Stereo Audio) - JH-1000 for R569

3. Then there is Audio/Video Transmitter w/REMOTE BLASTER for R499.

What are your opinions on the 3 mentioned above?

Importantly is that I must also be able to change channels on my 1110 as well which I see they all can do, but need to make sure that due to future STBs coming from Multichoice, these will still be compatibile.

Ideally, I would prefer a Slingbox with a Sling Catcher, but we don't have that here in SA and it is probably way too of an expensive solution.

Just also, is there a solution for this available in SA for HDMI instead of composite? The 2nd TV is still an old CRT though, so no issues.

I have an AV transmitter i was using from the DSTV but there was always some interference on the system if it was not the microwave it was some thing else giving interference .It is none of the ones you have mentioned .
I ended up hard wiring the system and now i am interference free and happy with the picture quality .
IMHO AV transmitters are a wast of time and money in most situations .

Waste of time there is always interference and the price has gone up 300 bucks since I got mine in 2010.

This is very sad to hear since I just cannot do coax any more! It is driving me insane!

Surely, somebody has got some form of solution on how to go wireless (may it be via a wireless network i.e. streaming) or by going for good AV sender/receivers that don't fall to the ground when interferance like a microwave is present.

I didn't even get a response in the DSTV forums to this.

I have a friend who brought a decoder and card reader in from overseas and built it into a XBMC box. He then uses it to stream live DSTV to anywhere in the house. It's legit in the sense that he's paying his subscription. One thing he can't do is get HD because monochoice insist that only their decoders are fit for the job by pairing decoder and card.

I can put you in thouch with him if you like. He's also in CPT.
