Ave Salary for a .net dev with 3 y experience?

Well can you pay bond/rent, electricity, car loan, petrol and feed your wife and children with that salary? If you are single or married to rich wife than it may be sufficient.

the age of only man working and bringing in the bacon is long over.

Guess age of men employing his wife to invest into his employer's business has arrived.

why should the "can you pay bond/rent, electricity, car loan, petrol and feed your wife and children with that salary" question be used when negotiating for more money... i think the employers are not there to pay salaries... you need to cut your cloth by your size. i believe that you should be living within your means... the fact that you have 2 children and therefor need an increase is out. i feel that you getting an increase should be solely based on the fact that you feel that you deserve it because of the quality of the work you do for the company...

Sometimes life is primary to people's priorities and work comes in secondary.

Meaning, some folks would rather be happy and have a family than being in a job that means they can live within their means.

However I do agree with you, but on your point of them living within their means, I don't.

I'd rather be struggling to make ends meet with a loving wife and 2 children than making ends meet and living within my means.

My dad raised a family with 1/3 of what I'm making now yet I struggle to make ends meet on my own....

Well if employers are not there to pay salaries why we are working for them? To help them to look good in front of potential clients?
And how and why do one adjust self to what is employer willing to pay?
Rather find somebody who appreciate your work and leave cheap/greedy guys to sell their bull stories to somebody else.
