Average GP visit cost?

Last time I went it was about R220.... for a whole 15min. About 5 months ago. No idea if that is cheap or a ripoff.
 
ja, about R200 last time i remember, but cant say for certain cause it comes out of the medical aid savings
 
Maximum discovery will pay is R238.

Some doctors charge more if it is your first visit with them, and on subsequent visits you pay less.
 
I dunno about up there, but here its R180-220? i think, will check tonight.. comes with medication too sometimes? I believe they have groups/organisations of docs that set the cost with med aid companies.
 
My GP charges R250, but because I'm with discovery he charges R220. I still think its a rip off.

Not really a rip-off. The medical aids set thier own prices, so even if the doctor charges R40 for a certain medicine and their rate is R7.50, the doctor only gets R7.50 and looses out as his cos was higher, so they basically just making up for the medicine with the extra they charging on the consultation.

Also they have to make a profit, it's a business after all. It took them 6 - 7 years to study for it.
 
My GP holds the record.R290.00 for a consultation but I wouldn't change her.She has the best diagnostic skills I have ever seen.If you overrun 15 minutes for the consultation it is still R290.00.
 
Avg is R220, If you are on Discovery, and the GP is on the Discovery Network, then they pay like R90, you the difference.
