So, just needed to get a bit of info with regards to freelancing rates.

What do you charge as your average hourly rate as a .Net developer? If you're not a freelancer, what would you charge? Skill level being intermediate to senior level.

If I did freelancing I would charge R750/h and work at least 40 hours a week ;)

Intermediate: R500 - R700
Senior: R700 - R1000

But it depends on the industry you are targeting. Manufacturing doesn't pay so well, but retail and financial services pay better.
Also, depends on the length of work. If you are working for just 1 client for an extended period, you would probably negotiate a monthly rate.

I used to work with this guy who was charging R1000 and he worked 8 hrs almost every day. That was 4 years ago.
He was good though. I learnt a lot from him

I generally charge R500 p/h for senior dev work just to rope in the clients :)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. From your input, it seems that the minimum "average" for a freelance .Net developer with intermediate to senior level skills would be able to charge R450 p/h. The ranged average seems to be R450 - R800.

Out of interest then, the developers that actually freelance, what type of clients do you have that allows you to negotiate these rates? More specifically, what type of industry is your client in? What is the "size" of your client's company (micro, small, medium, large, xl)? What type of software system(s) does your client need from you?

Seems I'm under-charging :o.
SharePoint and Project Server. SAP. Custom stuff. Mostly big companies (XL) but I decrease my after-hours rate for SMEs.
Negotiation is done with my labour broker but I set a minimum amount.

Think I answered all your questions.

Thanks for the info! Where did you find your labour broker? I've never really thought about having one. PM me with some details if you can :)
