Hi All,

With all the "What is a good salary" type threads, I was wondering what is your average amount of money you have left over to splurge with at the end of a month?

So in other words what are you left with once everything is paid/saved.

Around 6k - but I am using an old beater of a car and buying a newer one, that I would actually enjoy driving, would push me too close to the R0 which would be SCARY

Suppose it depends on what breaks that month :)
For the last while every month something ends up breaking or needing replacement.

After saving? Dunno. I just make sure I save a big chunk that gets transferred into an investment account automatically and then don't really worry about the rest.

As long as I don't run out of cash and save enough that's mission accomplished in my books

Nothing, wife has everything.

I do get R 100 a day though, does that count? about R 2100 a month then :p

Similar amount for me, luckily I am very happy with my car so the amount will only increase as I pay off some debt :)

Also very true, aalways something breaking or needing replacing...

Fair enough, so no set spending amount then?

What if you do all your homework and get an A? :p

About R1000 but most of it invariably goes into buying bread and milk towards the end of the month and a couple of visits to the local Spur.

Wow! How did you get that right? In the mornings I still have to decide if it's a green Monster or lunch later with my R30 per day.

To answer the OP... these days, most of the time it's pretty much R0 :/

Splurge/save around R6k (after RA, unit trusts, extra into bond etc)

2k a month is budgeted for me to spend on whatever I want. Its usually on take aways though :(

Normally left with about R200, but that figure will go to zero if the pathetic Rand keeps sliding against the mighty Dollar. We often have to dip into the grocery and household budget. :(

i have to admit, I don't take R 100 every day. Some days I just use the change of the previous day. That money is for my daily Monster in the morning going to work. Toasted sarmy from the canteen and maybe something at lunch time. Mostly I just get a Monster in the morning and one again in the afternoon. About R 50.00 just for that, depends on the specials :o

I get what you're saying :) My "R30" daily is also usually just change added to change from the previous day's Monster ...which is then used to buy a fresh Monster :D When they're on those 2 for R30 specials I usually blow my entire monthly "allowance" at once :o ...and then drink them like there's no tomorrow :erm:

Budget R1000 a week for petrol & food. If anything is left that's my extra spending money.

I budget approx R4000 per month for food, petrol and entertainment(split fairly evenly with my girlfriend). Another R1000 for set debit orders, Internet, cellphone, gap cover etc.

The rest gets diverted to savings pocket and majority gets invested, from time to time I buy "****" with it. Had a bad end of year spree with a few unneeded purchases(anyone looking for an 8" windows tablet, got maybe 24 hours of use on it?).
