Any1 using Kaspersky-Antivirus.2006?

I tried it and found that it's like Norton. It's too restricting. I still want to be able to use my PC instead of clicking approvals for every action on my PC!

I've been using Avast for about 3 years now and still happy.

A dedicated Firewall is Always better than Any software firewall. But ZoneAlarm does it for me. If I do need something stronger I’ll set up a Linux Firewall on another pc and connect to the internet via that...

McAfee

Ok, so you guys have convinced me that Norton suck! (as did all the various threats and quite a few websites) As I previously mentioned I am looking at changing my security program and have tried several. I have tried AVG (i use the AVG anti-spyware at present), am using Bitdefender 8 on my laptop, and have also used Avast. On my "main" pc I am running a Nod32 trial with ZoneAlarm. (quite ok, no problems). But now I have noted that the McAfee 2007 Internet Security suite comes with 3 user lisences. And me having 3 pcs. (ok 1 is the gfs, conected to my network), well I'm sure you know what I mean. So the bottom line... what do you guys think of McAfee???? I think that I am still in the mode of "you get what you pay for" and with BD-8, Avast and AVG, well, they are free....... Silly I suppose.

McAfee is much the same as Norton - It's a resource hog. If you want to pay for an AntiVirus, the best in the business is NOD32. You can buy it at most PC shops for about R350.

AVG may be fee, but the detection rate is just as good as the "Pro" version of the program. However, the Pro version offers techincal suppport. That's about the only thing that comes in extra when you pay for it.

Here is a list of programs that I rate from 1st to last. Actually, you shouldn't even consider using the last one. :p

1. NOD32 AntiVirus
2. AVG FREE Edition
3. Panda AntiVirus
4. AntiVir
5. McAfee
6. Norton Antivirus (Only if you're really desperate) ;)

For AnitSpyware, you should keep AVG AS. It's the same as the old "Ewido", only with a different name. :)

Abolutely agree... Between AVG and NOD32... You cannot go wrong. The rest are real resource hogs!

I see AVG has brought out a companion anti spyware scanner as well.

My AVG is popping up and telling me that 7.1 is being discontinued in Jan and being replaced with 7.5 - Let's hope AVG isn't getting more resource hungry.

Having used Norton/Symantec I can definitely vouch that they are a resource hog.

The AVG AV is still as good as gold, but the Anti-Spyware (old Ewido) is a bit of a hog.

and in the end..

Thanks guys for all the advise and what not. I eventually settled for Bitdefender 10 and I must say I am very impressed. Light on resources, quick scan and it even got some nasties all the programs that I tried before I decided, didn't get. My personal opinion, a GREAT program. And must say, at R140, yip, R140 at Computer Corporation a "steal". Must say, asked for a price at one branch and was quoted R245. Luckily they didn't have any in stock. Second branch I tried... well R140!
