[SOLVED]AVI to DVD, very frustrated

Hey guys

I can't believe such a simple task can be so hard! All I want to do is take an AVI video and put it on a DVD so it can play in a normal DVD player.

I have tried Power Director 8, but the quality of the DVD is half that of the original AVI. I have tried Windows DVD maker, but it doesn't pick up my DVD-writer and none of the solutions on the net works. I have tried Adobe Encore CS5 but it is so complicated I don't know what to do. I have tried converting the AVI to DVD with AVS Video Converter, and then using Nero burning ROM to write a "Video DVD" but then it just doesn't play in a DVD player.

Is there any software that can actually do this successfully? I don't care if it's freeware, or if I have to pay.

Using Windows 7 64bit ultimate...

Ok I see that it doesn't automatically burn the disc, it just converts it to m2v. How can I take that m2v file and make it so that is in the DVD folder format (Video_TS and Audio_TS)?
 
All mentioned software above works .....to a degree but none i have seen comes close to the french guys behind ConvertXtoDVD

Download the demo {only places a watermark in the center of the video} otherwise fully functional and can burn to DVD once completed (remove project folder if successful).

As soon as i make more money, i will be buying this software :)

nero vision does it..make sure video mode is on pal(for south africa) or you can try ashampoo

I had Imgburn, Avisynth, DvdFlick (some other stuff too) installed prior to AVStoDVD. My output options seem to differ from what you're describing..

Avidemux does a good job of converting AVI to an MPEG file that is compatible with DVD authoring software. It would be best to look at the tutorial first <http://www.avidemux.org/admWiki/doku.php?id=tutorial:converting_to_dvd>

This is also a good video editing package in case you want to do anything to your video before converting it.

I finally got everything working with ConvertXtoDVD 4. It is truly an awesome piece of software that is really easy to use, has a lot of cool features, and provides excellent output quality, and fast conversion times.

Another thing that stands out is the DVD root menu templates and designs, which are beautiful.

Ja, no... I also think I would not ever consider paying an amount like that... but I am continually flabbergasted at the prices some people charge for their software.

Scary thing is I have also downloaded some of these applications illegally (cracked/key) just to test only to find out they don't really deliver what I need. The 30min later I find a open source app that does what it says it does without being a swiss army knife kinda app.

HAHA :) Oh and yes, convertXtoDVD 4 does compensate for NTSC to PAL, after installation you are asked which format you would like to use.
 
Yes, I agree.

ConvertXtoDVD is by far the best. Not only does it cater for AVI, but also a large number of other formats, including MKV.
