Avios

Yes, to what point, I dont know. Just BP is my petrol of choice after Engen, so might as well collect.

We trying it, i prefer the BP stations to engen, slightly better service, i have had my moments if i pull up and they dont pitch within a few min, i start car and drive off...The BP just off edenvale - edenvale side near builders is a bit of a disaster, the one on the other side towards primrose - awesome!

Do you need a special card or something? Like a BA card?

Yes, you just ask for an Avios card at BP. Even if you pay with cash, they swipe the crad to allocate your points.

you ask for the card at the station and you then activate it on the net,
unless you regularly fill up a truck or a taxi fleet or a 747:D

not many points from average fill up,
Ive had mine for about 6 months now and Ive only got about 249 points, to get a free local flight you need about 3500 points

so its a nice to have but totally useless:o

Gonna go to BP for my next fill up and get me a Avios card. Might as well. Can also link PnP Smartshopper card to it and you can now use Avios points for Kulula also.

What you can do is get multiple avios cards, give a card to family members and when they swipe, it comes under your account. I've got 872 points after about 5 months. Only another 7200 points to go to get a 50% discount off a flight ticket. (The taxes you still pay)

I forgot about this. Need to get a card.

I use BP for my fuel anway - I get Discovery fuel rewards and FNB eBucks. So, now I'll get 3 rewards from filling up instead of 2!

EDIT: Flip, 1 avio per 2 litres is nothing!

I use about 40l of fuel per month. That means I can get 20 avios per month! A whole 20!

I suppose it EVENTUALLY adds up, but I think it would take me 5 years to even get a tiny little discount! They will probably all expire by then!

Do they expire? What is nice though is that there is no monthly cost to you. Most rewards programs you have to pay a monthly fee. Like the Kulula moola thing. You pay monthly for your Kulula credit card, and your points expire after 6 months. That is stupid.

Does not seem like they expire ... so long as you keep collecting:

Your Avios stay with you as long as you collect, spend, purchase or share at least one Avios every 36 months — any longer and your Avios will expire and be ...

It would cost 8000 avios to pay for a flight to Durban.

8000 avios means 16000 litres of fuel.

16000 litres of fuel divided by 40l per month means it would take me 400 average months to get a free flight to Durban.

400 months is 33 years.

In other words, by the time I have paid off my flat, I still will not have enough avios to pay for a flight to Durban.

Even if I start using 80l of fuel per month, it will take 16 years. Shortly after I earn my free return flight to Durban, I will have paid off my flat.

Honestly not worth it for me! I'd have to use something like at least 400l of fuel for it to be worth carrying that card around.

You can link your PnP smartshopper card also and earn points in PnP

I use two full tanks about a month. So that is 42 points per month. 8000 / 42 = 190 months / 12 = 15 years. hehe.

Shortly after I earn my free return flight to Durban, .

No, not free, half the price of the flight is free, the other half is taxes that you still need to pay.

Anyway, which city do you live in only to use 40l per month?

Joburg and I drive a small diesel car. Sometimes I go for an entire month without filling up.
