Avoid free VPNs

South Africans looking to protect their online activity should stay well clear of free Virtual Private Network (VPN) services.

Lol MyBB getting more terrible and terrible by the day.

Have you heard the saying “If it’s free, then you are the product”? You must have, since this is constantly repeated by uninformed reviewers and people who regurgitate these “reviews”.

NEVER use a Free VPN cause they can embed trackers for targeted advertising.

Tell all your friends on Whatsapp, Viber, WeChat, Instragram, Twitter and Facebook....

There be a fair amount of truth in the article, but I ain't so sure the paid VPN's, are as truthful, as they claim either.

I've been using NordVPN for a while, mainly for when I used to travel overseas and I didn't trust the public WIFI I was using in airports, hotels, etc. The biggest issue I've had with it is that I can't use any online banking while using the VPN, all the banks seem to have something that detects you're using a VPN. Also streaming becomes an issue, especially trying to use NordVPN within South Africa using SA servers. So, it's handy for some uses, but I can't have it permanently on 24/7 because it just messes up too many things.

While I can’t comment on what happens at other companies, at Windscribe the free server bills constitute less than 15% of our total spending on servers
This only applies to windscribe. Not other companies that would probably sell your traffic or something else

Also with NordVPN.
I don't have an issue online banking (Standard) with the VPN on.
I don't use the ZA servers, though and streaming is fine for me.

I'm with E-VPN, no issues with online banking (STD) but streaming apps dstv & showmax detects & blocks access
