Avoid high licensing fees by building your own software

There's a catch 22 on this, you end up spending more on your own devs and still playing catch up to the people who develop the specific software for multiple clients.

Yeah, in house software is great in SOME instances, and downright daft in others.

But for some managers, its a lot easier to obfuscate the cost of a solution when its spread across 5 devs, 1 PM, 1 BA etc.. than that meaty single annual licensing line item.

Yup if it's a very niche circumstance then in house probably makes sense, but if it's a widely used product by many others. It's stupid to try build your own from scratch. You'll never catch up to the commercial product and end up spending way more time, money and effort to say hey it's all in house.

lol at people who think in house means no maintenance and ongoing expenditure.

And “AI’s ability to accelerate delivery timelines has made the case for going custom even stronger.” - that means Codehesion’s quote should be lower now than two years ago, right Hector? Right??

Nope, its higher now, cos the AI is quality and you have to pay for quality.

By quality, I mean shyte and needs higher ongoing AI maintenance of the AI slop.

AI code 5 minutes, 24 hours of fixing it though ;-)

And securing it.
I once asked Claude what I need to do to securely allow access to my key vault secret by an app. I already knew the answer but wanted to see… It said “make it contributor at key vault or subscription level”
If you know, you know.
I asked chatgpt to help me do a re-write for postfix, cause I couldn't remember the exact regex, yeah that wasn't it.
