Hello all,

Just want to inform everyone to please be weary of fraudsters that are frequenting OLX. Some of them are "selling" stuff, whilst others reply to your advert claiming to be interested in "making payment asap". You will see some comments on hellopeter.com from people who have been scammed.

Rather try advertising on other sites. Avoid OLX.

Really? Never had a problem with gumtree. Sold about 50K worth of stuff on gumtree over the last two years.

Lately even BidOrBuy with their guarantees, has been a source of major scams and fraudulent activities.

I had many fraudsters try me, but I only dealt in cash so was never caught out. Sold over R20K stuff on gumtree.

Not going to happen.

A friend of mine got her money back after she bought a "genuine gold watch"
After she realized it was fake, she contacted bid or buy and they did eventually refund her.
She's also a lawyer though so maybe that helped lol.

Gumtree is no better.
I had a guy try to buy an iMac from me.
Assured me he had deposited the money.
The next day when I called asking for proof of payment he told me his wife had decided it was too risky paying me as I hadn't sent the package which lost their trust.

How stupid do you think I am.

Man, there are so many of these fraudsters on OLX trying to rip off unsuspecting people. Who in their right mind sells a two month old high-end Alienware M17x R4 (with a 7970M) for 5000?

Lol, I sold my M17x R4 on gumtree for 20 000 five months ago.

Lol. When I was selling my laptop I advertised on OLX and I got two responses - one from a doctor in the UK wanting to buy the laptop for his son in Africa - and the other from a woman in USA wanting to buy the laptop for her daughter in Africa.

Both the emails were almost identical and had the same spelling errors lol
