I took an uncapped package from Openweb, months ago & during August & September my service deteriorated to the point where I could hardly browse. And during those months I actually hardly downloaded anything, in fact almost nothing really. So, at the start of October I emailed them to cancel.

They respond to my cancellation request saying that I need to give one months' notice, which I was unhappy about because of course the service is useless to me at this point. They refuse to assist & insist on the cancellation term. I proceed to say sure, take my money, but cancel the service.

It is now December & yet another months' money has been debited from my account. I have not used the service, but yet they take my money. I email them & they say "oh, you were supposed to cancel the account online".

There are email threads where I stipulate my frustration & need for cancellation, but yet these guys expect I must just kneel & pay, smile & give them another month!

Does anyone know any competent people working for Openweb?
I need this sorted out, I cancelled due to poor/lack of service, however I am also moving premises & won't be able to use this account.

I am sorry.
we all reccomend not using openweb.
unfortunately there are no compitent people.

if you have all the email proff contact your bank mark the debit as fraud and ask them to reverse it.
then send a mail to them saying what you have done and attach the emails.

and also, go and cancel online AFTER all of this.

as a side note, welcome to the MyBB forum, did you choose openweb due to an article you read on here?

Went with them as I recall years back they were good, didn't know things changed so drastically for them.
Thanks for the advice, I will most certainly do that!

Thanks also for the welcome! Been on here for years, just haven't been too involved over the last couple years, after changing jobs & moving, things got a bit hectic!

you can try and get hold of this contact at OpenWeb after you have followed the above advice:

Leon Whitherall
Chief,
OpenWeb Global Service Centre
OpenWeb.co.za
http://www.openweb.co.za
support line: 0873508601

as a side note: I asked Openweb for a trial account yesterday and they gave me a 5 Gig capped DSL account limited to 24 hours - here are my arbitrary test results vs the competition:

despite showing slower Ookla Speedtests that the Afrihost capped, Vox Fat Pipe Capped, Axxess Capped and Incredible Connection 4 Mbs uncapped (on internet solutions backbone) accounts that I tested it against, in real world operation streaming Netflix an Kodi, the OpenWeb trial account stood up well and had minimal buffering.

My suggestion to the original poster would be to get a capped DSL account with one of the following:

Afrihost (Priority-Boosted Bandwidth capped)
Axxess (capped with 3 month rollover)
Vox Telecom (Fat Pipe capped with 6 month rollover)

I believe the only way to cancel with Openweb is to cancel the debit order with your bank.

Then make sure you have copies of all the cancellation documents (so do it by email, screenshots etc), to make sure there is no legal problems.

Welcome!

Sadly most here at Mybroadband forum know to stay faaaarrrr away from them!
Browse the forum a bit to which ISP would suit your needs better :)

For me it's Vox Telecom as i scored big with their promo,400gb cap R164pm
