That first price seems excellent for a digital cam....do I have to have a recorder for these or can I just plug a few straight to my pc?
No you don't need a dedicated DVR / NVR (although this would have many benefits), all of these cam's have a built in web server, you can log into the camera, configure it and also view / record video, you can setup many parameters such as motion detection, active zones, external passive sensors etc... You can access them from anywhere in the world using the integrated DYNDNS service.
This sounds like what I'm looking for start-up with one or two and expand with a dedicated connected recorder later.....
So what connections would I use to connect this ethernet cable to pc or should I connect them up directly to my router so they are online if I start up with 2 that is?
Correct, you'll connect them to a switch or router or directly to your PC.
They support POE so its a good idea to get a POE switch so that you dont need a dedicated power point for them.
Our 8 Channel DVR's have a built in 8 port POE switch![]()
Thanks, that's some useful information, think I'll run the two with power for now and then disconnect the power source once I buy the 8 channel DVR.
Sorry for all the questions but I'm new to the digital CCTV systems world, what is multicast and push video technology and do you have or will you have and 8 channel DVR with this functionality + POE?
No problem.
For now these two options will only be available in the high end 16CH DVR's and will not be a feature of the 8CH DVR.
Multicast - This essentially broadcasts an event to multiple user stations from a central server
Push Video - Your system can be configured so that in the event of a trigger a snapshot or short video can be sent to a mobile device.
Ok thanks so does that 16ch DVR for R4899 have POE also?
