I thought I'd post a list of some of the Android projects that I've found during my (reasonably short) time with Android so far. Think of this more as a collection of things that made me think, "wow, that's really really cool", instead of apps that are actually useful. Most of these are game-orientated.

1. Snesoid (SNES emulator)
The best SNES emulator that I've tried. It runs smoothly even on my Wildfire. Playing through some old classics like Chrono Trigger on the go has been great :). This seems to be a very well-know app and developer if you're into emulation but it definitely tops my list because of the library of games available for the SNES. link

2. Other emulators by the same developer (yongzh)
This includes:
Nesoid
GameBoid
GenSoid
and others.

3. psx4droid (Playstation Emulator)
It doesn't run at a playable rate on my Wildfire, which isn't surprising, but there is also a huge library of games available and the fact that they can run on a mobile phone really blows me away when I think how far we've come in terms of the power of mobile devices. link

4. UAE4Droid (Amiga500 emulator)
Ok, the emulators really seem to get me going, but I've never been one to be interested in the /really/ old platforms, and this emulator works surprisingly well. You need to find an Amiga500 kickstart ROM for it to work though. There are some cool games available such as some of the original Monkey Island games and other slower paced games.

5. ScummVM
The SCUMM Engine is an engine created by LucasArts for classic adventure games such as some of the Monkey Island games. There are quite a few games that run in ScummVM for Android (see http://www.scummvm.org/compatibility/). The official build doesn't work on my Wildfire but I found an unofficial port that uses SDL and has a few more improvements (like an on-screen magnifying glass). If the official one doesn't work, try this. Which leads me to...

6. http://anddev.at.ua/
I found this site while looking for a working ScummVM. There's some really awesome stuff here. Have a look around. This is where I found my next entry which is

7. NewRAW (Another World Interpreter)
NewRAW is an interpreter for the old game Another World. It was ported to Android and runs smoothly even on my Wildfire. I still need to work out the controls but it's cool.

8. GemRB (Open Source Infinity Engine implementation)
What more do I need to say? Classic games such as Baldur's Gate 1/2, Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale are now available on your mobile phone. GemRB is available on Linux and Windows but has now been ported so other mobile platforms, including Android. When I found out that it needs a VGA screen (Wildfire is QVGA) I was really disappointed because I've played PS:T and it's awesome, but if you have a faster phone I would HIGHLY recommend you give this a shot and post back here.

See it to believe it:

9. Kwaak3 (Quake 3 port)
Not very playable and needs a fast phone with a hardware keyboard, but just in the sense of "we're geeks, look at what we can do", I thought it's damn awesome. Kwaak3 even supports multiplayer over wifi :wtf:

So there you have it. I think there is more but I can't remember it all now. This is the kind of stuff that really gets me excited for what we have in store for us as technology progresses. If you have found any awesome projects for the Android platform, post them here :)

Some incredible projects. Thanks for the informative post. I saw a project a while back that ran windows 98 on android. Will look around for it and post it here
