Awesome gfx needed :P

You'll still have like 1k left over from buying them, use that towards a new mobo...

Honestly, I'd rather get a bigger screen. A 5850 will run any game on max settings, even at 2560x1600.

If I think 'awesome gfx' then I think either nice large display or 3D, so I would say either:

1) 5850/5870 and a T260/P2770.

or

2) GTX480/470 + Nvidia 3D Vision and a 2233RZ, might stretch the budget a little, though.

A single 5970 will equal 2 5850's - xfiring isn't necessarily the best choice here. 5970 punches above weight for its price/performance.

Klaas.... what are your overall specs without the graphics card? You might need to upgrade everything or you'll bottleneck - that's a very very fast gpu.

Not really no, 2x5850's gives the 5970 a good smacking

plus you can get them for roughly R800 cheaper too

With his 1000w he may as well go sli 470, as those will rape both the 2x5850 and 5970. But then again we dunno what his other specs are.. And i assume his screen res is about 1920x1200?

If he wants only a single card i would suggest Geforce GTX 470 or a Radeon 5870, personally im getting a 470 its just at the right price point atm :)

Sigh dude. He already mentioned in the thread he cant run sli and is running 1920*1080. So sigh.

Try read the thread next time.

Missed that but not like 120p make a big difference and I was just saying if you wanna go 2 cards 470 is better than 5850...
Still would be easier if he posted his whole system specs! Drips and draps of information is not very coherent..

But for that res you really dont need more than 470 or 5850 or 5870

120p is a Beeeeeeg difference when it comes to games and desktop resolutions.

More than double the amount of pixels.

Wasn't too impressed with 2x 5850's...

I'd go with the fastest single GPU card. Crossfire and SLI still not what it should be.

LOL I hope you're joking because. 1920x1200 is exactly 11.1% more pixels than 1920x1080.

Is it really worth spending R7k?? How future proof will a 470 be? I shop in the sweet spot- not the top or bottom of the range. Can then upgrade more often a have fun overclocking etc...

A GTX470 is R3600.

If i understand 120p correctly it means the monitor displays 120 frames /second. It doesnt display any more pixels.

Here is a good site site:

We aren't talking about fps. We're talking about the difference between 1080p and 1200p. which is 120p.

Never go for a two-card option when you can buy a single card equivalent.

So don't get 2 x 5850's.

Your best upgrade would however be a nicer screen + 5870
