Awesome tech specials from Dion Wired and Matrix Warehouse

The Asus Vivobook from Matrix Warehouse – R3,499 is not a bargain. I recently bought the same model form Loot with 4gb RAM at the same price.

I honestly can't believe that in 2018 manufacturers are still shipping laptops with 2GB of RAM running under Windows 10.

It's like they want people to get annoyed and fed up with their product?

For the past several years I've completely given up on laptops. They've degraded so much over the years.. you can only get a "decent" laptop that's capable of anything over microsoft word for 10k. Not worth it.

Just pop in more RAM.

Not that easy. You have to disassemble the entire notebook on some of these models and on some, the RAM is soldered on to the board (so not upgradeable).
And then some of these only have 1 RAM slot so you have to chuck the 2gb and buy 4 or 8.

BTW have you seen RAM prices lately?

Yeah it will be frustrating to use. These days it seems to be the norm for laptops under R4000. Some of them also comes with a 32GB SSD - so after you've updated windows and installed office, you are out of space.

I've recently bought 2 entry level notebooks (browsing and word processing).

Paid R3300 for this one:
ASUS VivoBook E12 E203NAH
N3350
4Gb RAM
500GB HDD (the HDD is accessible so can easily add an SSD)
https://www.webantics.com/asus-vivobook-e12-e203nah-celeron-n3350-116-hd-notebook-pink

Then I paid R3500 for this one:
Asus Vivobook Max F541NA-GQ340T
N3350
4GB RAM
500GB HDD
(HDD and RAM - not accessible from the back)
https://www.loot.co.za/product/asus-vivobook-max-f541na-gq340t-15-6-celeron-notebook/fzbb-5057-g560

The batteries are internal (non removable) on both of these.
