Hi all,

Is anyone else experiencing connectivity issues with Axxess over the last hour or so? I have been unable to connect and when phoning axxess either I get a connection error or number busy. I have noticed in the past that whenever Axxess has connectivity issues, all of a sudden you can't get through to them on the phone. hmmm, very professional.

I have checked http://networkfail.solidsystems.co.za/ which is not reporting anything.

Anyone?

Mine went down also about an hour ago.
I established that it is their dns servers that are not working properly as my skype was still up, but nothing else.
So i added google dns servers to my router and have been running fine since then

Google public dns servers: 8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

They are free to use by anyone.
Change back to default dns servers after a while to see if they are back online, as it is always better in the long term tpo use your isp dns servers

Great thanks for the advice.

I just wish they would inform us. I work from home and my income depends on me being online 100% during the day. During times like this there is no info on their website and their phone lines dont work. This is not the first time. Would it be so hard to just put a notice on their website? Even just in the client only section when logging in.

Very disappointed in them! Again!

Look at the Afrihost notice board, network notices there are related to Axxess as they share the same infrastructure.

DNS Errors
High Impact
Opened: 13:09 Wed, August 28, 2013

ADSL clients may experience errors with Web Browsing, YouTube access, Sending & Receiving Email and other services due to a DNS error on our network. Our network engineers are already working on the issue, and we expect to have a solution soon. We will continue to post updates are regularly as possible until the issue is fully and finally resolved. We sincerely apologise to affected clients.

UPDATE 13:47 28 August 2013 Our engineers are working with MTN to resolve the DNS issue. At present the cause is still unknown, but our team will continue to investigate. We thank affected clients for their understanding while we resolve the issue.

UPDATE 14:17 28 August 2013 Our engineers assure us that we are close to a solution to the DNS issue affecting ADSL and Mobile clients. Please continue to be patient.

We are currently experiencing issues with the automatically assigned DNS. As suggested in an earlier post, please try 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your primary and secondary DNS respectively.

We advise that you like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Axxess.DSL and follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/AxxessDSL, as we are keeping clients updated via these mediums as well as our Customer Control Panel on our website.

We apologise once again for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Thanks for the update. Clearly Axxess is too useless to afford their customers the same update to keep them in the loop.

Not sure if anyone from Axxess reads these forums? If so, PLEASE realise that some of us depend on being online to earn a living. You have cost me several thousand rand over the last few hours. The very least you can do is keep us informed by leaving a voicemail message on your phone line along with constant updates on your website. How is it that all of a sudden your phone lines stop working leaving us in the dark.

However it will be too little too late, I will be leaving axxess tomorrow.

A few hours of the internet being down lost you a few thousand? Why do you not have a backup account with another ISP who does not share Afrihost/Axxess/MTN infrastructure?

Hi RisseN,

We are posting updates on our social media pages as well as our Customer Control Panel on our website. We are fully aware of the impact something like this has on our clients and are trying our very best to resolve as fast as possible.

Unfortunately as a result of the high levels of calls we are receiving at the present moment, clients are finding it difficult to get through to our Call Center.

We will definitely consider adding a voice message to our phone system as per your suggestion.

We apologize once again for the inconvenience.

Yes, see the post above yours. They also have a Facebook page and a Twitter feed. Why did you not check them?

ADSL comes with no guarantee`s of connectivity. This is what diginet is for.

You are a very poor businessman if your connectivity is so mission critical to your business and you have no connectivity redundancy. ADSL goes down sometimes. Happens every now and again no matter WHO you are with. So I would highly recommend you get redundancy... and perhaps learn a bit more about the industry your business is so reliant on.

basically if an hour of internet is worth 1k for you you simply have to have redundancy built into your planning - having an Afrihost 1 gig account (free) can help as can a Vodacom dongle (R99 for 12 months redundancy - 100 megs can cover sending out emails for a couple of hours). It is possible to get yourself a fair chunk of redundancy at less than R500 a month.
This sort of **** can happen. ADSL = Best Effort and the norm targets where there are regulations at so on IIRC is 97% uptime - which is a day a month. If you need 99% uptime it will cost you and 99.9% will cost you a lot more and as you put more 9s on it costs more. Of course data centres have more uptime and with 100 megs a business can communicate with its data centre

Wow, Axxess started posting updates to their social media pages. During the previous months downtime (Authentication issues), there were no updates. Only random junk post on their twitter feed. At least they finally learnt. I've moved all but 2 small accounts to Afrihost because downtime happens but Afrihost support and communication is much better.

Oy, their Google+ account has no updates about this or any other support issues, only random junk like their twitter feed had before.

Update on DNS Issues:

If you are still experiencing issues please reboot your DSL router, you should be able to connect again.

Thank you to all the affected clients for your patience and understanding.

I had changed to Google DNS's when i could only skype and email and was sorted immediately. Decided after reading this post to remove statics and all was sorted again.
