Axxess/Afrihost static IP Routing

Well whatever you do don't buy the BiPAC 7402GX as Axxess say you must. It DOES NOT WORK!

Billion don't give a hoot and aren't going to help you and just refer you back to Axxess.

Billion has the world's worst support I've ever experienced. - consumer products I guess.

Get the NX.

Days Lost Figuring Out Why The Static IP Didnt Work

Yeah, we got the same treatment from Axxess as most here when static IP wouldnt work.
Please tell us Ivork, did you find a router that is satisfactory?
I think some guys, those using Linux, are trying another route (no pun intended)
Using a PC with linux and configure it to work as a router that supports L2TP. (check here )

The Zyxel P-2812HNU-F1 works like a charm and simple to configure all the routing and port forwards strait from the GUI.

Been using it for a week since I gave up/chucked out the billion and so far no problems.
I'm told the Billion 7402 NX works but I can't vouch for that personally.

Going forward then the Zyxels sound good. There should be 2 options later on, the expensive one we already can get, and then a cut down version which will be much more affordable, or suite someone like me who want it to only do [A/V]DSL without wireless and fancy things.

Hi, Axxess told me to get one of those routers as well, but cant seem to get it to work, what did you do to configure the static IP and port forwarding? As even when I set the NAT etc, still get no incoming connection and cannot access the static IP from outside the network?

I had the same issue and couldn't figure it out. Then I select "active as default route" under the L2Tp setup and it worked thereafter. Set up a web server and an FTP server for testing. Hope this helps!

Hi Ivork

Would you mind sharing your setup method on the ZyXEL P-281. I have L2TP working fine to Afrihost - but can't get NAT Forwards to work.
Probably choosing the wrong interface? Need to fwd a total of 10 ports on a single static ip to different local ip's which are mapped via CISCO ASA 5505 firewall. Using dynamic ip - the fwds work fine on a Billion 7402 bound to ipwan ... but could not get them to work on static ip for longer than the next reset in the Billion. So bought the ZyXEL ... but struggling to configure.

Many thanks

Anyone else succeeded with the Zyxel P-2812HNU-F1? Need help in setup via GUI for Port Fwds.
Many thanks

It would be better if they allowed something like a Mikrotik where it would be far easier than a billion router with their really crappy firmware.

Would be really nice to simply pass thru / bridge and use Mikrotik... Problem being, Mikrotik does not as yet support tunnel authentication on L2TP. Sooo, the undercarriage damage from this speedbump hasn't been reduced as yet.

But Hang Ten before you buy - no one I know has got them to work properly yet!!!

Exactly the same issue with the older 7404VGO Billions, regardless of firmware version

Sorry, unfortunately I cannot agree on the ZyXEL's. They have the tendency to simply loose connectivity (always after hours) requiring a physical restart ...

Keeping 'em fingers crossed Stratt will help me out with IOS and will then post the config and experience with a Cisco 877 ...

What was the verdict on a router that works well with Axxess Business Static IP?

Has anyone tried to use Bridge mode on the router with a MikroTik behind? - or is that wishful thinking?

There was a thread on here somewhere that explains how to set it up on a mikrotik
