hi guys

was wondering if any1 can help me out?

i was reading on axxess basic adsl and see they have a semi shapped account and an unshapped account .... wats the difference between them both?

and wat speeds am i looking at .... i have at home the 1mbit adsl line at home ..... wat speeds is axxess?

Semi-Shaped is unshaped after office hours and on weekends.

This is only useful if you play games on overseas servers or listen to internet radio or use some other service that is hosted overseas that is not browsing.

Axxess does not have any packages that limit the speed, so you will get close to your full line speed when accessing local sites, but when you access international sites, your speeds will vary greatly depending on how congested the internet is.
 
and wats the difference between semi shaped and unshaped? and are u sure the line speed does not depreciate after 5 and weekends when ur using the semi shaped account?

Stoke is correct. And the speed does not depreciate after 5pm and weekends.
 
ok im sorry im still alittle confused..... with this semi shaped account does it mean that i can download as much as i want after 5 and weekends? because if this is true .... y arent we all with axxess? hehehe
 
no i am talking about the semi shaped adsl basic package! it sais its unshapped after 5 and on weekends!

The same goes for the semi shaped accounts. Your ADSL line speed does not drop.

Semi Shaped means during office hours it is shaped in other words HTTP and Email get higher priority than any other traffic type, after hours it is unshaped no priorities on traffic types. You still have to pay for the bandwidth, there's none for free.

This is a nice account if you are an gamer and play on international servers after hours, or you need to make a VOIP call after hours to someone outside of SA.

Cybersmart have something kinda like what you are wanting called night rider.

However you must understand the difference, you will not be using SAIX bandwidth, but rather Cybersmart's so your ADSL experience could be different.

Have heard some reports that on 384k night rider is OK.

As warwickw said, that would be your only be for such an option. People mainly get the unshaped / semi - shaped for gaming and time - sensitive applications and not really for downloads.
