ever since fri/sat 25/26 Dec 2009 my connection actually dies, and I got to reboot my modem, anyone else having this? I normally get 90GB a wekend, this weeknd hardly got 20GB so far....really irritating, paying a whackload for this line and its unstable as a coke addict

I'm on Express+ and its been solid all weekend. Maybe line trouble? Test with Afrihost for a few hours in the day tomorrow?

i still got almost 4GB of afrihost, switched over to them now and if it doesnt DC once, I'm going to give Axxess shi t, I'm not paying 999pm for this k a k!

So far its not looking good for Axxess, Afrihost connection been going fine for 30 min already.

Well... they moved their local only from expensive SAIX to cheap IS while charging their customers the same for it. So maybe they've moved the express accounts from IS to an even cheaper upstream provider. DigiChilli? Screamer? :D

OMF god forbid, then I'll cancel immeduately and go give the chilli a try, they claiming u can get bumped to full line speed at times, so maybe its worth a shot, Axxess may be starting to slit their own throats.

This Afrihost connection is rock solid , not even a glitch so far, I can feel the blood starting to boil in my fists

EDIT: Oh nope CRA P!!! There it goes again, si ok, its NOT AXXESS ...pHEW!!! Lucky Axxess, now all it can be is my line or my modem. Its probably my k a k modem, as I have already phoned Telkom and they say everything is good, even the exchange has no issues. Going to have to go pick up my buddies modem and give it a try.
Seriously hoping its the line, not my modem, I've lost like 3 modems to lightning already. I even had this one plugged into a surge protector. Oh well...cra p!

Ok, so I think the little modem is suffering from overheating, when it DC'd again, I picked it up to throw it against the wall, and it almost gave me 3rd degree burns. The underneath of the modem is hot hot, so I pulled a power plug via my PC and hooked up a 12cm fan and put the modem on top, I'm now going to check if it helps. If it is the heat, I'm going to have to make some holes and strap a fan to its belly :) Geez, tech ass pains

EDIT: wow, interesting, its been going for an hour now, I also changed to another router port, I think the one I've been using all this time may have become faulty, lucky I got 3 more. I swopped ports and put the fan under it, and so far, no problems and not a single disconnect. Only thing is, now I dunno if its the heat or the port..:) Lemme get rid of the fan and see what happens, quite possible that port is damaged.....could heat really cause a modem to lose a connection ?

CR A P , was none of that, looks like my modem is poking out, borrowed a friends netgear and its cruising, no DC yet. Damnit! Nooooo, thats my 3 router to go

this really sux, the netgear is cruising solid the whole night, but I also found it gets really hot, actually smells like really hot electronics underneath, so I rigged the PC fan and its pushing air into the modem from underneath, keeping it nice and cool. I actually think my modems popped cause of heating, seriously....

well, what do u know, the new modem also disconnects, so now it must be my line, surprise surprise Telkom, I hate Telkom!

ok, some faith has been restored in Telkom.
But I must say, it wholly rests on 'WHO' actually helps you there when u call in.
I called Telkom with this issue a few days ago, and the dude tells me everything is 100%, must be my ISP. So I gave axxess a support ticket, and they say its def my router or Tekom line. Switched routers, and ISP's, issue still happens, so now the issue is def with the line. I call Telkom again this morning and now, a nice guy answers the phone (i do remind you its new years eve aswell, but he's lank helpful and cheerful, I will get his name and post it on the forum, so if anyone has any issues, speak to him, he knows what he's doing. I will also be sure to tell his bosses he's excellent).

So, anyways, he checks for me and he says he clearly sees the connections dropping!!! YES!!!
He reports the fault and says he will follow up. He says its not Axxess and doesnt try shift the blame to my router or my ISP. Says it does look like a line fault, possibly a faulty port. DUDE!!! WELL DONE!!!

Turns out the old modem it started happening on, doesnt auto reconnect, so when it drops it stays dropped, so it really highlighted the issue. The new Netgear hides the drops by just reconnecting under the radar, so u never see the issue. Thanks to my old router I now know it actually helped me find the issue, and now I dont need to buy a new modem...yes!!!!
Another one for the books..

I have exactly the same problem for the last 2 days now. Frequent disconnects and reconnects. Today it's finally died.

What the guy's name, and what's his number ?

just looking quick, call 0800 375 375 and ask them to see whats going on with your line, I will call them quick to see the agents name against my incident number. Give them a call so long

geez, these issues are persisting, now it looks the modem is poked again, my old modem is not even syncing anymore. So I plug in my friends new netgear again and there it cruises. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE!!

I'm just rechecking everything again. My old modem you have to configure the settings manually, can someone confirm these settings for me pls?

VPI/VCI Con. ID Category Service Interface Protocol Igmp QoS VlanId State
8/35 2 UBR axxess ppp_8_35_2 PPPoE Disabled Disabled N/A Enabled

EDIT: Now the modem is working again. Surely a modem either works or it doesnt, how can it intermittently just stop working. I think I'm going with the Telkom guys diagnosis, that the line is faulty. He could even see so. Geez, what an annoying mess.
