How is this not false advertising, there is no way you can do 153 gig on a 384kbps line.

Lets do the math (BELOW IS DONE ASSUMING THAT IS DON'T DO ANY THROTTLING)

48 KB/s x 60 seconds = 2.88MB per minute.

2.88MB x 60 minutes = 172.8MB per hour.

172.8MB x 24 = 4147.2MB per day.

4147.2MB x 31 (days in August) = 128563.2 MB

--

= 128.5632GB if they use 1000 as a divider

OR

= 125.55GB if they use 1024 as a divider

--

So either I am incredibly bad at maths or this isn't even possible.

Any comments?

Please Note:
These accounts allow speeds up to 4 Mbps (24/7) if your Telkom ADSL line supports it.

afaik, that means that it's 384k during office hours, but up too 4 meg after hours...

...however this one might be wrong that's used on mybb.

there is no topup feature on the adsl lite, just upgrade account.

I didn't see that. Thanks. I apologize in that case, however how can they be the only ISP offering uncapped after hours 4mb as R196 rand and how are the users only pulling 150 gigs if thats the case. Doesn't sound right!

There is actually a temporary upgrade option where you can purchase more bandwidth during the month for R19 per gig. It then resets to your default allocation at the beginning of the next month.

what i with "just upgrade account" :)

What about concurrent connections with the same username/password on a 384k line at 2 locations? The ad shows 2 concurrent connections allowed.

So theoretically 153 Gb is possible

Pretty good deal for 2 concurrents...

What you're also not taking into account is the 20% restriction placed on 384kb/s account holders. The top 20% for August were starting to get shaped at around 9Gigs of download.

Within the top 20%, there is a steep 24/7 imposed shaping incline which we figured was peaking at around 12 Gigs. So let's be generous and say you get heavy shaping at 15 Gigs for at least 10 days (rolling period). Now 15 is pretty darned far off from 153Gigs (top figure for August 2010).

Axxess in their usual way is going to refer this to IS (their upstream provider) and IS will not respond. So what to do? ....

Max on a 384 line is actually 122.6 gigs which is up/down and overheads.

Actually upload link speed for 384K is 128K

well there is some people who gets around shaping and can run a 4mb line with that account and use something like http tunnel(google it) or something in that direction. but we average joes wouldn't know about that stuff i know people who downloaded 60gigs on a digichilli account 384k and we all know how **** digi was

No, you can't run 4meg on a 384 line. Those accounts are 384, not 4 meg and they are not shaped to start with. It is technically impossible to reach that download volume.

yes you can. your 4mb line will not reach its maximum speed because of the 384 account. you will have a 4mb line and will only be able to reach 40k downloads. that's all...it is impossible if you go by the rules. but what we don't understand is that people can get around throttling and use fancy ports or apps that they create themselves...i don't know what they do but they can get around that kind of thing...correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard a lot of people do mad stuff on some sites.

yes I know that its impossible with a 384line because it only gets to around 122gb. but I for instance live near the exchange. i get sometimes jumps to 45kb/s most I've got was 50kb/s my line downloads most of the time when i have a good day at 40k which is quite fast i never used to get that until I got astraweb and downloading from ssl servers. sometimes my downloads go at 42k and 43k and stay there for a while

I seriously doubt you can force your line to go faster than whatever speed your ISP has set it at no matter what ports or applications you use
