It is not possible to auto top-up an Axxess Lite account.

However, there is a provision to manually select a temporary or permanent upgrade of the account, and that costs R19 per gigabyte.

I spoke yesterday to a consulatant at Axxess, and I mentioned that Axxess should allow auto top-up so that no manual intervention takes place.

He told me that Axxess does not allow this, because at the end of the month, the auto topped-up gigabyte would be lost if not used.

I mentioned that most of us would not really care losing maximum R19 at the end of the month, but that we would love not to be obliged to constantly look at the used bandwidth and manually upgrade the account when we reach the limit.

The consultant will refer to his boss and hopefully Axxess will implement this auto top-up.

If you guys agree with me, you should push them doing so too.

You do get bandwidth reminders via SMS so there is no need to constantly check. Personally I never have nor ever likely to use auto topups, but then it's different strokes for different folks.

It also is a "lite" account.

Yes, but in that case, there is still a manual operation that I have to do, which is log in to the Client's area and select a temporary/permanent upgrade of the account.

An auto-top-up would be so easier.

I disagree.... I think you should manage your own bandwidth usage, just because WA screwed me over on top-ups. Even R19 at the end of the month, whilst negligible, is still money. Its just the principle. So no from me for auto-top ups.

Firstly, an auto top-up either requires the ISP taking on credit risk, or debiting your bank account or credit card R19 every time you use another gig (rather than at the time of upgrade). Transaction costs could become disproportionately large.

Secondly, ISP's make most of their profit from underutilization of purchased bandwidth. Auto top-ups would mean very little chance of any sizable underutilization, so to make auto top-ups equally profitable, they would have to be introduced at some premium charge above the current R19.

But I just ask Axxess to leave the choice to the customer, not to force to auto top-ups.

As far as I am concerned, I consider as a world-class service not to have to manually have to top-up my account every time it reaches a limit. I should be able to choose auto top-up without manual intervention.

I only see in South Africa that the customer has to "manage your own bandwidth" as one said hereabove.

And sorry gatecrasher, but your argument is wrong. There are good chances that an auto-top up coming at the end of the month, will not be fully utilized.

Get an "uncapped" account then.

Jeeeez guys, you really seem not to understand my first point. I just say that Axxess Lite in a way accepts a kind of top-up, as they call it temporary (current month)/permanent upgrade of the Axxess Lite account, but it has to be done MANUALLY by logging into the Client Area. Why not making this automatic for the customers WHO WISH SO, not for the stingy ones :) ? It has nothing to see with an Uncapped account.

I understand perfectly, mate. I just concur with other sentiments expressed above, it's really not that much of a schlep to manage one's bandwidth usage, besides, you get to control what you want to do, not the the other way round. Completely agree on the bank charges too, why give the banks any more that we already have to by incurring multiple charges. And as stated originally, YMMV.

Then following your arguments, why then Axxess (for some accounts) and AfriHost and WebAfrica and... provide for Auto-top up for most of their accounts ?

Maybe because it's intended as a no-frills package (to you, and them).
