Axxess local email address joke

I always wondered why I could never access my email address on my Axxess account when I was on using local only.
While it bothered me I never thought much about it.
But today having been capped I logged on with my plentiful local only account. Still no access to my emails so I contacted the helpful techies on the Axxess helpline and together we battle to figure out the problem.
Eventually we came to a dead end and the techie obviously went to consult higher powers and together we both learnt something new. Axxess email addresses are hosted on their server in Chicago and are not local at all.
While I will not argue the point of false advertising etc all I really want to know is does any local ISP host email sites in South Africa? And who are they?

When I am on local data I can access all my mail from Telkom Internet. I have a 3 GB mailbox with them... and to save data I even access via their new online message thing... works better to read it online before downloading it...

Axxess email addresses are hosted on their server in Chicago and are not local at all.

To me that's unacceptable.
You would expect to be able to access your ISP e-mail account on local Bandwidth.

But I know for a fact that Axxess can make exceptions on their local-only accounts to allow for international access. One of these sites is dyndns.org - surely they can do the same for their email servers?

To quote axxess why they do not offer email service on their local only I could only find this line as an excuse.
Excluded from the ADSL Local Only service:
1.) SMTP Servers - Customers will not be able to relay e-mail via any SAIX SMTP server.
2.) Cache Servers - Customers will not be able to use any SAIX Cache (Proxy) servers.

Note they only list SAIX SMTP servers.
Now my service is supplied by IS? So surely they should update the local only features site and in plain English state you will not be able to access any emails even ours.
Guess for the second time I will be reporting them to the ASA.

And please rather than waste twenty minutes of my time inform your hotline guys exactly what crappy service you provide so that they and we do not have to spend our time trying to sort out a problem that is nothing short of a laughable attempt to screw your customers.

Well would you host locally if you can do it for 10% of the price in the USA and get better speed and service?
Would you pay 100x more for server hardware locally compared to what you would pay abroad?

I won't and I don't !!
I host in the USA and doubt if I will ever host in this greedy evil run industry of ours!

Host in the USA may make economic sense but that does not excuse Axxess from not at least unlocking those ports to their local only.

I have to agree, hosting overseas is one thing but denying a paying customer access to his own e-mail account that he is paying you for is just plain wrong! Unless if it is part of the terms and conditions that you will not even be able to get access to your e-mail when on local.

Any normal person would think that logically their e-mail from a south african ISP is hosted in South Africa?

This is serious for me since I forward my gmail account to my local only account, and I was looking at maybe trying a new ISP.

So far I know the only people who offers 30GB local IS accounts are WebAfrica (have been having some serious drop in connection problems the last two months), OpenWeb (never again will I touch them with a 10 foot pole) and Axxess.

Am I missing someone here? And if Axxess does not offer mail on local only then I guess I'll have to stay with WA.
