I see on Axxess Prepaid accounts they offer an unshaped service from either IS or SAIX/Telkom. Can anybody explain why the significant price difference between the two? For example, 5GB with IS will cost you R345 but with SAIX/Telkom it will set you back R595.

Is it simply that Telkom charge more for a service that is essentially the same, or is there more to it than that?

I would assume the cable on SAT-3 that SAIX uses is more expensive to maintain than the satellite link that IS uses on those accounts. This difference will be felt on your side ITO latency... but methinks the cost DIFFERENCE is simply outrageous. I however, know little.

EDIT: Nevermind... They both use cable.

Internet Solutions has a direct link to Seacom. Telkom has a direct link to SAIX/SAT3. Seacom's price-per-GB is lower because the line has more bandwidth to go around, and its a faster cable. Its also quite new, I expect the per-GB pricing will drop by at least half in 5 years.
