AXXESS setup help

hi.

just bought a 2 gig prepaid axxess adsl account to try to troubleshoot why I'm having issues with LOTRO at the moment via my telkom DSL.

unfortunately, I can't get my router to connect - it's a Mecer router with a connexant chipset.

when I run a diagnostic the router reports that it sees the axxess PPPoE server, but cannot establish a PPP link - I've reset my service account password several times to no effect, still can't get a link up.

anyone got any suggestions?

Have axxess re-auth the account or reset pswd. If no change have telkom reset the adsl port. Good luck.

Is your Mecer a Telkom router or one you bought yourself?

If it is a Telkom router, thenhard reset it to defaults and then just change the username and password to your Axxess details.

If it is your own, the default setting could be wrong so make sure you have the below:

Encapsulation: PPPoE
Multiplex: LLC
VPI: 8
VCI: 35

The rest should be fine.

yeah, it's one I bought myself - I have the above settings set, but the modem still won't establish a PPP connection - will try some more fiddling this evening, yay.

I can't really help much with a Mecer If it was a Netgear I it would have been a whole other story ^^

lol. Conexant seems to be a very widely-used chipset for ADSL routers ;-)

and I have no problems connecting to hellkom's DSL service so I know the router works. Wonder if it's the dash in the username that is causing issues.

argh, still no luck getting a connection; have requested someone on the other side look at logfiles to see whether I'm getting through or not

Try getting a D-Link or something next time. I had some bad experiences with a Mecer.

your problem is clearly a authentication problem if I was u I would hound axxess until they give u a username and password that works

Well, I've bought a d-link so I'll try that tonight to see whether it helps out. Axxess say they see no occurrence of my username + password in their authentication logs, but my existing Mecer definitely says it can see the remote PPPoE server.

Looks like a line fault.

It isn't a line fault, I did finally get it working last night. Oddly enough, the D-Link won't communicate with Telkom, and the Mecer won't communicate with Axxess, so I have both modems and will just switch between them when necessary.
