My client is currently using a static IP address from Axxess via L2TP. Axxess informed us that a new static address will be assigned on Tuesday, 27 October between 7am - 11am (originally planned for 23 October). The new IP will be assigned directly to the PPPOE connection, without the need for L2TP. I submitted a support ticket to Axxess requesting more specific setup instructions, such as they have currently on their website but the reply to the ticket was: "We unfortunately do not have one. Should you find it difficult, we advise that you get a technician to do the necessary changes on your side."
The main reason for posting this is to get Axxess's attention and to address the obvious issues arising from this change:
Hopefully my semi-rant will elicit some response and clarify the abovementioned issues. Now, should I just get some coffee and watch a movie, or go back to bed
The main reason for posting this is to get Axxess's attention and to address the obvious issues arising from this change:
- Client's server connected via static IP, 24/7 uptime required
- Axxess is going to "throw the switch" between 7am - 11am on Tuesday, 27 October
- Main concern: Since the clients’ business depends on uptime, I need to make the configuration change the moment it changes. That means I have to be at the premises between 7am - 11am, monitoring uptime. Presumably, once the connection terminates, I can ping the new IP and change the configuration
- So, client is paying R570 p/h. If the change takes place at 11am sharp, the account will be standing on R2 850 (travelling time included)
- If Axxess overruns the scope, or if they fail to do the switch as planned, the implementation costs will increase proportionally
- Bottom line is, resulting from inadequate information from Axxess, the change to a R59 p/m static IP is going to cost the client a few thousand
Hopefully my semi-rant will elicit some response and clarify the abovementioned issues. Now, should I just get some coffee and watch a movie, or go back to bed
