After searching the internet flat I thought I'll ask here.

My current setup involves a Mikrotik Router acting as the device doing PPPoE connections as well. I got myself a Static IP from Axxess.

Does anyone know how to set up the static IP on a Mikrotik? I can see the traffic for the Static IP being Natted to a 10.x.x.x/8 IP address, but not sure how to get it to respond from the static IP over the 10.x.x.x/8 tunnel again.

According to the Axxess site, you just assign the Public IP to the PPPoE interface of the router?

Don't they provide IP details on the Control panel? IP, Mask, Gateway, etc.

They only provide the IP address. Just assigning an IP address to the PPPoE interface doesn't work. There is more to it.

as far as I am aware, Static IP's on Afrihost and Axxess are natted on a service provider level therefore not requiring any further configuration on client side - the days of having to dial into a l2tp vpn to get a static IP are thankfully over.

Yep - Axxess assign's a NAT IP to your router and routes all traffic that passes through it via your assigned IP. No additional config required. View attachment 436286

Thanks. Just out of interest, do you get the Public IP to respond to Pings? I don't seem to be able to get the traffic past the 10.0.0.0/8 IP range, it stops there.

As it routes via NAT, ICMP does get dropped.
